Looks good, my 2008 was in the same bad shape. Went through the whole thing top to bottom. Only way to to it when theybare that way. Your paint came out way better than mine. Probably better quality n definitely better body work.

Thanks. For the paint I really didn't spend that much and was my first real paint job. I am convinced Southern Polyurethanes Universal clear can make anyone look like a hero, that stuff wend down so smooth and flowed out so good I was shocked.

Paint looks great. I just painted my hood this morning was all stoked on the outcome until my kids knocked it
Off the stand before it was dry. Guess I’ll be starting over once it’s cured.

From post #24 to #25 is a big jump to me since I have never refoamed a tray. Do you have any pictures of the foaming process and what foam did you use?

Yes, I bought the pink rigid foam sheets from Home Depot and cut pieces to fit as tightly in all voids that I could stuff it. I then used 8 lb polyurethane pour foam from US Composites to fill all the voids by pouring it in and quickly covering it with wax paper covered cardboard to force it to expand into shape and the voids. Then just sanded it to the final shape.
 
As if this build couldn’t go any slower I did manage to get a few hours in this weekend and got the turf started.

The heat gun and dowels worked great as recommended here on the X. I made sure to get the inside first then the rear top corner and work out from there.

The most stressful and difficult part was the trimming, especially the back corner because it’s so hard to tell where the edge is.

But lots of heat on the blade and patience is the key. I just had the heat gun on the floor and heated often.

Now I need to stand in the tray to see where my Dakine foot strap is going to mount before I do the bottom turf.

And because I’m a dad that’s the end to the ski work for the weekend.

But... turns out with China closed there’s no kids bikes coming to the states until October and my 10 year old son has outgrown his bike so we are in desperate need for a 24” bike for summer.

So just for @brraaapperdoodle I broke out my vintage 1989 24” Mongoose Maneuver and started refurbishing it for my son.

He had to make the parts list and help with cleaning parts.

And try finding 80’s bike parts...... we tried to support the one remaining bike shop in town and the only thing they had was pedals. No tires, tubes, brake pads, grips, seat or anything else.

l’ve done some crazy turf jobs on a number of difficult skis,but rn superjets are always a pain in the ass right at the end of the gunwales and then down to the bottom of the tray! l still haven’t figured (or best trick) out the best way to do them.TOBY even sent me a template to help..
 
Ski looks great! But why go through all that work and not widen the tray?
Because I just wanted a basically stock superjet. I am pretty realistic that 80-90% of my riding will just be at the local lake and even if I ride the surf I won't be doing anything crazy at all. I just don't like hacked up skis but that's just me.

Had I known this ski was this bad and needed this much work I would have never bought it and just looked for a clean stock ski.

I like my skis to look OEM and minty fresh...

The other thing is at 43 I like to go to the lake and hit the start button and just enjoy my time and not mess with all the crap. I haven't modded a ski for the last 25 years for this very reason. I just keep them perfectly maintained and stock so they fire every time and no drama as I got tired of all the tuning and sitting on the beach years ago. This superjet will be my first modded engine ski in 25 years and not my primary ride so it should be fun to mess with when I feel like it. Outside will look bone stock but it's getting a B-Pipe, ADA head, Hooker 9/15 and a lightened flywheel.

I haven’t had much time to work on the ski but getting a little done here and there.

Got the tray underpad down and shaped.

And have my guide studs for the foot strap anchors I epoxied on.

Then installed the tray turf.

I was going to start turfing the rails but it turns out the OEM decals will be below the top of the turf. So I had some fun and did one of the most rewarding parts of this build so far.

I bought the big bottle of Sticker-On from Hardline and a felt covered decal squeegee and it went really easy.

The factory decals are worth the money and the blue and silver are actually metallic in the sun.

I think I’m going to wait on the waterline lower decals until I decide if I am adding tubbies since they are the most expensive of the set.

Now I need to get the rails turfed.
