Haha nice! I eat about 4-6 cups of spinach a day, with MCT or butter of course!

Speaking of meat sweats.

I recently went though some difficult times and was kicked out of ketosis (cortisol, no sleep, stress, etc). So I went on a 'normal' diet with IF. The normal diet made me feel like absolute poop, but I did take advantage of a 26 hour fast and did the Mega Mel Challenge http://melscountrycafe.com/ Ate it in 65 minutes. Didn't eat for 28 hours after this big bia hahahah.

1lb of bacon
1.8lb beef
cheese on every patty
whole head of lettuce
whole tomato
whole pickle
Buttered buns

If you are an intelligent individual with any sort of accountability - calories in vs calories out can produce results. But every 'body' reacts differently to different stimulus.

First, where that model is flawed is when people drop calories too low and the body's basil metabolic rate drops and goes into 'starvation mode'.

Second, there are other factors that affect how the body burns said calories. Here is where intermittent fasting comes in to play. Beyond 16-24hrs without food stimulus the body increases metabolism, HGH increases, adrenaline increases - more calories are burned. But the great part if intermittent fasting is you do not reduce caloric intake. Many people do OMAD (one meal a day) that contains 1800-2500 calories. Fat burn and weight loss without caloric deficiency. I won't harp on the mental part of IF, but it feels amazing!

Third, kind of looping back to the main point of being a smart individual, is 100 calories of a cookie is vastly different than 100 calories of olive oil. A cookies's 100 calories is from empty sugar and carbs. It spikes insulin, which spikes fat storage. Also the body can't do much with those 100 cookie carbs. Not to mention the negative affect of the dopamine high and then low from the cookie and cravings for more. The 100 calories of the olive oil is 100% fat, and fat does not trigger a strong insulin response from the body = less fat storage. That in a nutshell is the key to weight loss on a high-fat low-carb keto diet. But as Quinc mentioned, there are far more benefits to IF and keto than weight loss.

Every person is different and no diet is perfect. I'm not necessarily against the calorie deficit diet all together, it can produce results. But the calories in vs out model has many, many flaws and it isn't the most 'healthy' option depending on what types of food the individual chooses to eat. Keto naturally takes out processed foods and that in itself is a huge step in the right direction.

Cookies are also made with Butter(fat), Eggs(protein), and usually some chocolate(caffeine)....You're losing credibility. I snack on cookies during long camping jet ski weekends, where we're riding more than 4 hours a day. During those events I can never get enough calories into my system. The only workout that compares to full out jet skiing has been power cleans, where cardio and lifting are combined. I ride hard enough to see stars at times, which is my body running out of oxygen.

I've done half marathons and biked more than 120 miles in one day. I know the high you speak of, it's called running on fat reserves and adrenaline. The same thing used to happen at the end of 5 hour football practices in August. I don't need a fad diet like "Keto" to get me to that point.

@Quinc How is eating two pounds of meat in one sitting healthy?

I only eat one meal a day at the moment, dinner. I just choose not to fast and eat a small breakfast and lunch.

Hey I'm not trying to say you are wrong man, I'm saying cals in vs out has it's flaws. Just like keto, and ANY other diet. If it works for you, stay with it and do what makes you happy. The end game for each of is is your own quality of life.

With my cookie example having no credibility, your point makes no sense. Fat by itself is healthy, fat with carbs and sugar - unhealthy.

Your body burns glycogen (carbs) before it burns fat. That is why the keto diet is carb and sugar restricted. So going along with the cookie example, your body will metabolize the carbs and sugar first, insulin is heavily spiked, and the fat from the butter/egg is stored instead of used as fuel.

Fat without the carbs/sugar (olive oil example) is metabolized by the liver and burned as fuel instead of stored. The important part of keto is the endurance. Carbs are quick burn energy, and in turn they run out quickly. The carb hangries are an example of that. A fat molecule has many times more energy than a carb. "The release of energy is far greater (129 ATP (fat) vs. 38 ATP (carb)) between these types of macronutrients." From here: http://cristivlad.com/energy-levels-under-ketosis-fats-carbs-and-atp/

This is another reason why keto works hand in hand with intermittent fasting, is your body doesn't need carb energy. The body dips into it's large amounts fat stores that are readily available walking around with you at all times. The reason the body does not run on fat on a regular diet is ketosis will not happen when carbs and sugar are present.

I raced two full days a few weekends ago, running on only one keto omelette each morning. Simply didn't get hungry and didn't need to eat. Great fat burn and great racing!

I'm enjoying the quality of life it has given me, if it doesn't work for you, that is ok.

With this mindset you are never going to see your peak performance. *I knew everything once too ;) I highly suggest you read more and or listen to podcasts of people who are smarter then us.
Another great person to listen to is Rhonda Patrick

@Quinc How is eating two pounds of meat in one sitting healthy?

Science behind it looks good to me. So I am trying it to find out for myself. If I feel worse I will stop. If I feel better I will continue. So far so good. And the amount of time I save only cooking one meal a day has been my favorite part.

One thing on Keto I found, if you go donate blood, make sure you are getting simple carbs in before/during or you will most likely hit the floor when you try stand up afterwards.

Very true!!! I need a Capri Sun, stat!

Definitely check out the Keto Clarity and Cholesterol Clarity books. I listed to both of them on Audible while sitting in endless traffic. Very informative, and will definitely enlighten your mindset towards cholesterol, particle size, and statens/the health industry as a whole.

Down another 5 pounds, 190lbs this morning. Still eating cookies and drinking beer when I feel like it. only 5 more pounds to go!

Racing is nothing like an entire day of free riding. Racing you sit around waiting for a 10 minute heat every two hours. You're comparing the 100 meter dash to an Ironman.

^^^^ when you were rocking your cargo shorts in the 7th grade i was 31. enjoy the metabolism you have now cause it doesnt last forever. i'm just saying that not everyone can eat cookies and drink beer and still lose weight. not hating, just saying thats not everyone's reality

i am really giving this keto thing a college try, first time ive ever been able to really shake things up with my diet, but im finding it very difficult to avoid carbs with out preparing every meal myself and im not someone who likes to spend much time in the kitchen. bad stuff is so readily available....and cheap too

I also freeride, the racing is much more demanding. At least at my skill level haha. Five 12 minute races riding at VO2 max burns some calories!

You do your thing, I'll do mine! I don't need convincing to drink beer and eat cookies when I have the results I want
