DISCONTINUING THE SUPERJET????

Yada, yada, yada.......

As I said previously...... in 2018
Well, since my friend quit and is no longer a manager at Yamaha I guess I can tell you what the Yamaha watercraft rep told him a month ago. Keep in mind this is what I was told by him so I can't verify myself. In about June the watercraft rep stated that he was really excited that the new superjet was finished and approved. Scott Watkins had been testing if for a few years now and was really excited because it was so good and corporate finally agreed to put it into production. It was basically the existing hull with the TR-1 4-stroke engine so there was very little R&D and investment for corporate. This was not going to be the big heavy and fast beast that the Kawasaki is, it was to be the same superjet we love with a EPA approved 4-stroke engine. He said Scott had been pushing this project for a few years now but the top brass would not give it the green light because of the sales failure of the Kawasaki. The rep stated that it would be announced at the Wave Runner dealer meeting in August 2018 and the dealers could start ordering units for the Summer 19 season. That brings us to the end of July when the Wave Runner rep came back and I told my friend to make sure he asks about the superjet. The rep was really bummed and apparently so was Scott but he said corporate killed the project once again. The new superjet would not be announced or at the August dealer meeting. He also didn't know if the project was dead forever or the exact reason, only that there would be no announcements , or orders for new superjet.

Didn’t ask, it was laughed at by the “ties” at the dealers meeting, was mentioned and forgotten in one min, i work for Yamaha, I have since 2006. I spoke w my rep this am as i placed an order for a 2019 Superjet, yes I’m in Ca. his excat words were, not gonna any time soon. ☹️ Superjet sales have been on the steady decline. Kawasaki has tons & tons of units sitting unsold after tons & tons of hype. Sorry no state by state production numbers. Did you know Yamaha no longer imports Superjet to Australia ? I learned that today

Exactly what I was told too. My understanding is it was caused by Kawasaki's sales numbers. Once the Yamaha brass saw the Kawasaki flop they pulled the plug on the new superjet out of the fear theirs would flop too.

Just look at the Kawasaki - its just to darn ugly and heavy. Look what Kommander did by putting the SXRF 1500 motor in their normal looking nice size ski.
Bet Kawasaki would of sold more if it was more modern looking and a little lighter. I would of bought one and I know a bunch of guys that were waiting for years for the thumper....only to laugh in sadness once it came out.

Was granted exemption by their version of our EPA. Hopefully the EPA will give it 2 years more again. You can do searches and find out the info. Its government info so its public you just have to dig to find the filings

They would have sold more for sure. I don't race but was intrigued about a 4 stroke ski for a cruiser. I was in %100 on buying the new kawi not knowing what it looked like or price. Then they released the pics and details... Standups shouldn't be 500+ lbs.. For that fact, I was out and extremely disappointed as were most I believe.

If Yamaha would drop a 4 stroke in their current hull, ill gladly buy one.

Not going to happen. No new SuperJet

Just so we are clear, that means no SJ at all in 2020??

Wasn't kawasaki forced to make it so big because they were too lazy/didn't have the budget to R&D new components, so they had to go with heavy un-optimized components? This obviously resulting in more "necessary" flotation and thus huge overall dimensions? What is the weight of the TR-1 compared to the 1500? Surely if Yamaha actually tries, it won't have to be such a barge..

Either way, whatever yamaha brings us, if they bring it, is going to be bashed and thrown to the side by 80%+ of the standup community I would think.

yes and no
they had to make it that size to meet the USCG Floatation Standards. If they had come up with a smaller motor that was lighter, the hull would have been much smaller.

The dual-overhead-camshaft, four-valve-per-three-cylinder, 4-stroke is 40-percent smaller, 20-percent lighter, and 13-percent more powerful than the outgoing 4 cylinder engine.

I heard they are making new (as in different sized) crates for the Super Jet at the Newnan Factory. Hope they partner up with Kommander and put out a GP1 bottomed ski. I’m in for one if so. If not, I’ll save my pennies for a ProForce or GP1.

I hope Yamaha builds the hulls. Would hate to know we were buying Yamaha's coming out of that factory............. trainwreck.

From what I was told Super Jet hulls are not made by Yamaha now. Only the runabouts are.

Who then? Since when? I don’t care what anyone says, not all 08+ superjets handle the same, even from the same year. They have some variation for sure. Some feel much more aggressive than others
