SXR Help a newb out (basic maintenance question)

Hello, all!

I am relatively confident the answer to my question is “Yes” but, I’d sure appreciate knowing 100% - for sure, before I drop money on replacement parts so, here goes:

Am I correct that I can use the oil filter and sparks in the 2006-2015 Kawasaki Jet Ski STX-15F Maintenance Kit, (Kawasaki PN: kjet-101: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073JWSJF...olid=2XZ4RVRPC9P0B&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it ) to replace the oil, oil filter and spark plugs in my 2019 SXR-1500, when the time comes?

I figure I’m gonna have enough on my hands learning the first time I pull the pump, check bearings, reassemble and reinstall it for the first time so, having everything I need for the basics of a first oil and sparks change already on hand will be one less thing for me to gather, down the road ...

Thanks in advance!

Hey Chix, yes, Thank You!

Luckily we have an extractor that works realllll good on a Yama VXR sir-down so, thumbs up there.

Right now, and unless someone corrects me, I am almost certain the 2017-19 Kawasaki SXR-1500 stand-ups have the EXACT SAME engine in them that are in the 15f sit-downs so, I’m gonna get my hands on either a OEM 15f oil filter or a K&N KN-204 and the correct Kawasaki motor oil and consider myself ready for my first oil, filter and sparks change at the end of this, my first season with “the beast!”

At 5’11” and 210 lbs (down from 225lbs this past winter) it is amazing how effortlessly this 1,498cc toy yanks me UP and on top of the water!

Now, having only been on it twice (and no other standup ever before) its the staying up that presents the challenge, ha-ha! (At 59 it’s been probably 40 years since I was last on a skateboard! :-O

Your “Part I & II” “How To” vids help tremendously and I cut (can’t quite say hooked) a sweeeeeeeet sharp left turn last 2nd) time out, went into a right turn and ... EPIC WIPEOUT!!!!

LOL, my wife was riding herd on me on her VXR and she said she wasn’t sure which made her happier, the rooster tail I cut going left or the thumbs up I gave after resurfacing after attempting a right hand!

Obviously, left turns are gonna be a strong suit for me and I have my work cut out for me with turns to the right!

“BRING ... IT ... ON,” I say!

PS - reference end of season maintenance; I already have a dozen NGK CR9EKB plugs (as opposed to the older CR9EK (I think those older ones have the caps that screw on (but which have been know to come off!)

Great, glad the vids helped!! That's what I love to hear!

You can always call a local Kawi dealer and comfirm filter and plugs if there isn't a straight forward answer in a a Google search. Think the filter is the K&N 204 but the plugs could be different heat range and such.

Hey, good morning Ride4life and Thanks for the confirmation (MUCH appreciated!)

Ha-ha, yeah, I’ve heard at least one horror story about those factory-gorilla installed oil filters and I’m girding myself for the battle at end of season. I already have a pair of the ‘scizzor’ type plier Filter-wrench but, I’m also going to obtain one of the type of wrenches that has the 3 legs or “prongs” and which grip the filter tighter the more you turn the filter counter clockwise.

Also wondering, are over tightened oil filters easier to break loose when hot, warm or cold? If answer is “hot,” I may take a couple types of wrenches with me to the ramp when I go to take ski out for season and see if I can at least get the filter unstuck before engine cools down (I’ll only be able to get engine “warm” on the hose back home, after that last long run from our home dock to the public take-out ramp...)

Of course, a heat gun would allow me to just heat the portion of the filter that screws onto the filter mount, which worked for me when fighting to get a factory installed filter off a John Deere tractor (some JD &actiry assembler had to have used a wrench to tighten that filter on at the factory and he/she was either an idiot or had some very, very sick sense of humor ... :-/
