Hogging out bolt holes on some couch mounts for engine alignment in a superfreak. I held the mount in my left hand and drilled with the right. The bit grabbed the mount and twisted my hand so that the thumb was caught between drill bit and the mount. I let go of power immediately but the damage was done. Smashed the poop out of it and busted my nail into about 6 pieces.

Immediately after bleeding stopped:received_381572582732952.jpeg

We have had a string of accidents at work lately. I'll try and get the pics of the broken fingers I was shown this morning.

I had to collect footage of a guy getting squished in a log kicker a couple days ago. I won't be sharing that video.

Few months ago we got a call one of our idiots, and I mean idiots was on his way back to office. He had shot a nail through his finger......... He gets here and I ask him what happened. He was installing hardwood flooring. There was a metal floor vent, all you have to do is bend the metal over and place the wood over it and nail the wood down. Even our Field Mgr told him not to even fool with the vents. Well, he decided to bend the metal down and take a nailer and nail the tabs down to the hdw subfloor............. nailing through metal has rarely worked well even with a pneumatic nailer. As we said in the Army, walk it off, drink water and take ibuprofen. You’ll be ok. That applies to broken bones as well as concussions.

Mine healed fine. Yours?
Kind of. Lost the corner of the finger. Its now covered in scar tissue. It hurts and has lack of feeling at the same time.

I can still type, operate a clutch lever, and a bike brake lever with it at 90% of original ability. Struggle a bit when using that finger working on skis and such. All in all I can't (shouldn't) complain. Learned a valuable lesson about slowing down when work working on stuff though. Stupid hurts and I was rushing something and it was stupid.

Also just realized your OG post was from 2019.... apparently I'm not entirely done w/ being stupid.

Haha, thats kinda how my thumb looks except I have all my thumb and the nail, but the nail will never grow back together, it just splits in this one spot. So I have to cut it every month.. 30 years ago when I was a young man I was drilling and the bit broke and the drill took the corner of my thumb out. I rmember almost passing out, till I sat down, lol. Lesson learned ever since. :)
