1995 Yamaha Superjet Resto-Mod

@JetManiac I’m doing my final checks on spline depth as you have suggested in the above post. My midshaft is set to 20mm, I have cleaned the grease from the driveshaft and put grease into the inner splines only. I installed the midshaft and have checked to see where the grease is pushed. It is making it about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way into the splines. I checked this measurement with calipers, the splines on the driveshaft measure to be right at 42mm and the grease is reaching to right at 32mm. I tried this test multiple times and came up with consistent results. I have 1 extra coupler washer that is about 3mm that I could push it back a little... what do you suggest? Deja vu man! Same pump, same problems. I would bet you have a 25 3/8" setback shaft and they're telling you that's standard SJ length. By my measurements it should have been 25 3/4". I settled for 25.5 the second time around and pushed my midahaft in to 26. Good you're checking all of this. I found out the hard way.

Making some progress, I was able to start reinstalling my motor mounts and tabs, battery box and even set up my new tank and fuel petcock. I am using Tygon fuel tubing for my fuel lines, which is made for use with gasoline and lubricants.

Hate to tell you, the Tygon line will turn brown and get stiff after a year or so....... But inexpensive so no big deal.

Hard to tell from the pics, but it looks pretty close to a stock SJ engagement. Definately best to press the midshaft in farther like I described earlier in your thread. Be careful to press slowly and stop when it hits the next step in the shaft or you can ruin the bearing. You may not need an extra washer depending on your hull's alignment.
 
In the meantime I was also able to set up my handlepole for my new Thrust Innovations-shorty steering. I lined it all up from underneath and had my lady mark the holes for me on the top side. I wanted to drill the holes as strait as possible and decided it wasn’t a good idea to do by hand... My neighbor passed away recently and it has been hard for the whole neighborhood. But, Brian was a really nice guy and so is his family, so they encouraged me to use any of the tools I can. I gladly obliged and made use of the drill press. Thanks B! Miss you bud

That turned out perfect so I went ahead and bolted up my new shorty steering from Thrust Innovations. When I bolted in the old steering stop, I noticed that it was hitting the stop on the new steering only about half way. I got to thinking and decided that the stainless would probably beat up that new aluminum steering over time so I came up with a solution. I grabbed a 60mm stainless bolt and some nice fuel hose and came up with a neat little steering bump stop. It’s only about 3mm wider than the stock steering stop, but it has that rubber cush so I think it will probably be great. 91E60244-2718-49FD-B9E7-9DC0450C6017.jpeg

Been working hard on turf for the last week or so, I’ve never done it before so I took my shot. With 1 attempt gone wrong I knew that I had to fill in the underside of my rails because the bend was too tight and impossible to turf. I built it up with some underpadding and it came out okay. I like all of the smooth turf, looks really nice.
Thanks! I thought it would look good and would work with the overall styling. I have been told the solid turf shows scuffs easily but that’s okay, I like when stuff starts to look worn in. For real though, every time I see that smooth purple I just want to lay down in the tray haha
 
I’m doing a little math here with my midshaft, I’ve pushed the midshaft as far as it will go and it stopped at 22.5mm. I’ve used a press for years, So I know what it feels like when you reach a bind, I’m confident nothing was damaged. When using the grease on driveshaft method I’m coming up with about 34.75mm of engagement, the driveshaft splines total length is 43.25mm. That gives me about 8.5mm clearance before bottoming out. I am using an extra washer under the drive coupler to make up the difference there but I’m still above stock spec for clearance between drive couplers. Something tells me this driveshaft is a tad bit short ;) @hornedogg79
 
I got my bilge routing sorted out, my midshaft torqued and ready to install, all my cooling lines figured out and everything mocked into place several times to make sure everything fits. The only issue I have ran into is that I drilled my pisser line a little bit too low. I’ll run it and if it becomes a problem I can fix it but I’m ready to ride! I got my purple heat shrink in and got back into that...

Got the pipe to fit, Thanks to @OCD Solutions for passing notes in class and giving up industry secrets, this pipe looks amazing and I heard it’s not all just looks... Also added a little flavor to the handlepole...
