    Quick disconnect stator

I buy weatherpack connectors from eBay and cut the stator wire about half way to the ebox. That way you can disconnect the connector and pull your engine without taking apart the ebox. I like to use the 5 pin connectors that are circular in shape. Google "5 pin weather pack connector" and you'll...

    Kawasaki 650 E-box Fittings

If you are good at CAD and/or 3D modeling, draw up a model and send it somewhere to get 3D printed. You should be able to get it printed for under $10 at Shapeways or some other 3D printing site.

    A anti-itch tip for grinding/sanding fiberglass...

+1 on the baby powder. I keep a bottle in my garage for doing glass work. It also comes in handy for putting on nitrile gloves.

The kit that I ordered had the wrong size bearing too. I bet your kit came with a bearing marked "HK1412". The correct bearing is an HK-1312 13.3mmID, 19mmOD 11.8mmT. INA brand is one of the best if you can get them. I think the OE was a Koyo, but the markings have been rubbed off so I can't...

Well, I guess I will have to do a write-up on starters. There's really a lot of applicable info that everyone might be able to use not only on Yama 701 starters, but pretty much anything. Pretty much all small engine starters are the same. In the PWC world, really the only major difference is...

I've though about creating a thread on OE starter repair, I just haven't had the time to really sit down and type it all out. I think there would be a lot of interest in rebuilding your starter, BUT unfortunately, I don't think many people would do it. Here's the reason: you can buy a...

So, with my curiosity piqued, I decided to run out to the garage and check out a bendix that I had lying around. The part with the gear, the clutch, is not serviceable from what I can tell. I'm not 100%, but it feels like a roller clutch drive. Roller clutches have hardened rollers and springs...

Circlips are a pain... Unless you have the right tools. I work in starter remanufacturing and we remove circlips like this all day. Typically we destroy the ring removing it. We use a resistance soldering iron on the side of the ring opposite of the gap and heat it up cherry red. That kills the...

Yamaha 701 Super Jet Starter Question

Ben, don't throw the old starter away if you still have it. PM me and I'll Paypal you money to ship it down to me if you don't want it. I'm working on getting some rebuild kits and I need a few more cores to rebuild. I'm an engineer at a company that remanufactures starters and alternators, so...

Yamaha 701 Super Jet Starter Question

Probably. I bought one about that cheap for a couch that I sold a few years ago. Even new, the bearing felt pretty bad... What's wrong with your old one? I'm might be able to talk you through rebuilding it. I've been meaning to do a write-up on how to rebuild these starters.

    Early Freeride Anyone?

Where are you at on the lake? I'm not at all familiar with LOZ. I bought my ski from a guy that had a house in Rocky Mount, not far from Iguana's boat dock or something.

    Early Freeride Anyone?

Depends on what part of Denver. Around 12 hours if you are on the east side or south side. I've made it from Springfield, MO to Parker, CO in just under 12 hours. I'm game for coming up to LOZ to ride. All I have is a shorty suit, so it's gonna have to be halfway warm.

I don't have a prop tool either. I think there are several different sizes, but I'm not completely sure which one for our SJ year. Most of them are under $15 on ebay from what I've seen.

    Newb Need Help

From what I've read, swapping a 650 into a 440 is OK, but the pump on a 440 is too small for the 650, so you might run into problems there. If you could find a 650 cheap enough, I'd say go for it. Truthfully, I wouldn't spend a ton of money on it either way. IMO, as far as vintage hulls, the...

    Newb Need Help

Depending on your size, a 440 is really small. I'm 6'2" 215 and the 440 took a lot to get me up on plane. 650's are good motors and can be had for cheap. I've seen Kawi TS sitdown skis with a 650 motor for like $250 on CL. You'll need a conversion plate that can be bought for around $100ish. I...
