300/440/550 550sx Hull Modernization Build

haha you've already assimilated into boulder life.

Hells naw! haha. I only go up there when I have to, or to go to some swanky coffee or beer place. I live down in Evergreen, but wouldn't mind moving up to Summit County (Doesn't everyone want to live up there? lol).

I've been around the state a bit now and realize there's some potential for lake boating... not much surf tho :/

haha nice. Ya summit county would be nice for guys who enjoy snow. Its not for me though. I'd be fine with never seeing a flake of snow for the rest of my life. Been trying to convince my wife to move for years now. Its never gonna happen....

20 pages and 2 years! I thought I'd finally had the rare opportunity to stumble on a huge build thread and read it all the way to completion at once but you have robbed me of that! haha.

This thing is absolutely amazing and I think it is obvious that finishing it is the only option. You can't just hand it over to somebody else; there's no way they could appreciate it like you'll be able to.

Goals to finish this thing:

1. I'll be traveling back east for Halloween - I'd love to get my engine to a buddy to run it, (just so I know I can drop it in without worry!)

2. I'll be back east again for a whole week on Thanksgiving - hopefully the engine has been tested, I'll be doing a more thorough inventory of all the parts I have/need to finish it. I need to get the pole welded too! but the good thing is I have it all drawn up in SolidWorks, and I was 99.9% sure at the time I drew it that it would fit properly so I'll just go on that!

3. Sometime between November and Xmas, My 'rents will be driving cross country, and they've happily agreed to get rid of the stupid thing a.k.a. tow it with them and bring any/all parts I may need.

4. I'll finally have it out here in CO and hopefully get it ready for some lake skiing in CO's spring which is more like May haha.

I saw some guys riding X2's out here in CO a week or two ago in a lake called Blue Mesa Reservoir... after seeing that I knew I needed to get back on the water. Kayaking is not much fun after you've ridden a stand up enough.

pshhhhhh, may is when we take the wetsuits off lol. Lakes open 1st week of March assuming they are ice free. I know you have cold water gear if you're a kayaker. I'll be at Boyd or cherry creek opening weekend depending on which one opens first. Throw on your drysuit or wetsuit and bring that bad boy out for its maiden voyage in March with me.

I actually don't own a wet suit haha - I'm usually perfectly OK with really cold water though... to a point! Swiming in the lake by St. Mary's Glacier was pretty much the coldest water I can ever remember, and I've swam in the ocean in the winter (East Coast), and plenty of 'polar bear plunges' and had no issues!

I'll be happy to take you up on the offer of riding the lakes, come spring time! Gives me a concrete goal haha.

haha ya st marys is pretty cold. The lakes in March are about the same. Watch CL and Pick up a deal on a 4mil+ wetsuit. it adds 3 months of ride time to your season in this climate.

Ok dude. I've dreamed of seeing a ski like this since my first 550 I got in 2000 in high school. Every single time... Never gets finished.
I subscribed, AND I'm sending you a PM, please please please DO NOT sell the hull.
I'm begging you man, finish this ski. Every vintage rider is looking at this thread and praying it gets finished someday.
The shape of the whole thing... It's what we all wish we could have, let us live vicariously through you and please put it together!

Also I've learned a good amount about fiberglassing from this thread and for that, I thank you.

Just logged in after... a few years it appears! - Had to buy a dirtbike first to get back into the portable motorized device world haha.

A lot has changed in my life, but the desire to finish this project still stands!

I just shipped my pwc trailer out here to Colorado and I'm going back to Pennsylvania this weekend to pack up the 550sx project... stay tuned! Really want to get this done for a few summer river rides!
