So after doing some research, we noticed the ski is supposed to have a wedge in the pump area between the Vain guide and reduction nozzle. Well it doesn’t, so that is a big reason why it porpoises a lot. I’ve never seen a wedge on these pumps before but this was also my first Kawi standup pump I’ve removed. Working at a dealership I mostly saw the sit down skis with pump issues and none had a wedge until the Kawi ultra lx. That wedge was there to raise the nose instead of lower it like this one. Trick of the trade was to install this wedge on the ultra 250s&260s to get an extra 2 mph. US models had the wedge removed bc it made the ski faster than the Coast gaurd regulations
I’ll let you know how we make out with the added down force.
Also, we noticed the ski having a little eratic idle. There was some extra play in the throttle shafts. Could this be an issue with the idle surge? Getting an air leak?

So my buddy n I figured out 2 different things for his barn find. He hasn’t ordered a wedge yet but we tried adding a couple of washers under the rear ride plate bolts. Was definitely a help. You could even see it was better from watching at land bc there wasn’t as big of a rooster tail coming from the back. Still want to try the wedge though bc we still couldn’t get it full throttle all out without bouncing everywhere.
Also the throttle shafts was the issue with the weird idle. The carbs have the rubber grommet piece that holds the throttle shafts together. I noticed that one was moving with the cable n the other kind of had a mind of its own. Was a simple fix. Got the correct size Allen key to tighten the screws n got the shafts nice and tight and they both turn n close at the same time.
I’ll let you know how the wedge feels but for now it’s time to go riding on the river.
