Thought ya’ll might be interested in seeing what’s inside of one of these "fine, expensive, high end" "AntiQuality" batteries. This particular specimen was purchased new and went into service on 8/21/13. The voltage has been checked religiously, and never dropped below specs. I don’t run bilge pumps and restarts are infrequent. I do run total loss and the battery is recharged with an Anti gravity charger after each use. This battery, mounted securely in a CF tray, has never seen [pooled]water anywhere near the level of the terminals.

On with the autopsy pics:


After surgically opening the plastic casing, here’s how much water was inside.



Inner seal. Evidence of water ingestion/corrosion already visible.


Plastic seal removed reveals evidence of water damage and corroded connections.


Positive lead connections had corroded and broken free. Weak spot welds.





Weak connections, and what looks to be inadequate sealing of brass terminals.
Really pathetic construction for such an expensive, "high end" battery.


They, “AntiQuality” should add a line to this disclaimer sticker, immediately, “Do not use in WATERCRAFT!” Period. Not only would I not recommend running one of these POS in any watercraft, the way they are constructed... I can't see them surviving any kind of sustained vibration and repeated hits like that generated in an off road application.

Had I seen what the inside of one of these POS looks like and what the [pathetic] construction techniques are, I wouldn’t have touched one with a ten foot pole.

This is the 3rd one of these piece of crap batteries that I have snuffed. They warrantied the last one, but made it clear, that they would not warranty another one.

I'm tapping out on the whole lithium battery scene.

While these batteries - not just AntiGravity, but all of them - are marketed as high-end and certainly priced accordingly, in my opinion they are nothing more than a cash-grabbing attempt with relatively new technology penetrating into a market that wasn't there before. What better way to do that than to buy some A123 cells, pay some high school kids to super-glue them together, and put a :):):):)ty box around it.

I have seen children do better solder joints than that. It is laughable.

Make no mistake - these are not, under any circumstance, high quality batteries. They are garbage, assembled cheaply, hustled for big $$$ by companies that will disappear once the scam is up.
 
What a piece of crap. I'll stick with my heavy ass Deka 12 for $79 shipped, been going strong for 6 months with total loss. Still hoping someone will come up with a small lightweight design that will work. Untill then I refuse to play the lightweight battery game.

Im running a Shoria right now after my antigravity took a dump,we will see if it lasts? if it sucks i might be done too . my deka was good . Quite a few paper weights last season ,the whole lith-ion technology is a super delicate maintenance pain in the ass..

shorai is garbage also. i went thru 3 of them in my yellow freak. they warranteed 2 of them free but tried to drag me over the coals on the third one. its still under warantee but they want 50% of new. i'm over it and the few lbs of saved weight dont make the difference of getting around on flips n rolls, so why waste the extra coin? put in a bigger battery and a bigger motor, but dont spend big money on a light battery of any kind.

I was going to start a thread about this, but I'll say it here first. PHP has been working with Ballistic for the last year to improve the quality of jetski batteries. They are built 5 minutes from us. We have done destructive testing on all of the top brands and I can tell you Anti Gravity is the.... well lets just say they are not the best. Ballistic is now making batteries especially for PHP to endure the rigors of TL and slamming in the bottom of a jet ski hull. With all of the failures - and believe me, we have trashed older ballistics within a couple days, we were not about to make the announcement until we knew they would hold up. The cell connection bars are completely different as well as the fastening to the cell from standard. The seal on the battery case is also bulletproofed. They did not experience the kind of failures we did in the jetski world in any other power sports. The slamming on the bottom of the hull coupled with submerging in a freestyle hull was a unique challenge. Need a light weight battery? give us a call.

My etx9 dekas are still my favorite bang for the weight for the buck at 6 pounds. I'm glad Zack is getting one of these companies set straight though.

What about drilling a small hole in the cover and filling the entire thing with potting compound? Would it trap too much heat and cause a fire?

I was not at all impressed with the CEO trying to pull a fast one on me by citing his warranty posted online as the actual warranty, when the printed warranty was different.
This was specifically about TL. He was convinced that the warranty prohibited TL and quoted the warranty on their website (which was a joke in itself - the warranty). The printed warranty that shipped with the battery was completely different and made no mention of TL.
Improving their product is one thing and I hope it succeeds.
Improving the company and the way they conduct themselves is another matter entirely.

Sorry to hear that was your experience. The original ceo partnered with another powersports business owner in our area. When the original owner wanted to do things his way they split. After some production issues he turned control back over to the original partner who was invested in making them bulletproof before they sold tons of them. Long story short PHP is not in the battery business...but we will not concede in putting a 15lb battery in our expensive lightweight AM hulls. I know the owner personally and helped them come up with a battery that works for what we want to do with it - this tiny portion of a battery market. They make them special for our use. I have no idea if the warranty has changed as I don't make the batteries. Please nobody out there take offence to this, but if I don't sell one battery to a customer on here I don't care. We build engines and that's where our heart is. BUT we have figured out a battery that works, so if weight means a lot to you give us a call. If it doesn't rock a standard Yuasa, they work great.

im still a yuasa sport bike battery fan. my CBR battery is like 3 lbs, cranks over my 4 cyl 600 motor no problem. have 5 years on one battery. (not TL, but still)

You might want to weigh that battery again...lithium batteries are about 3 lbs. I have a battery from my GSXR1000 sitting in my basement right now and it's definitely more than 3 lbs.

Maybe it's a Honda thing lol my gsxr 750 and zx10 battery are both a minimum of six to eight pounds

Its great to see some effort is being made to come up with a solution that could work in the environment we use these batteries. I had an anti gravity, used the charger they recommended and kept a close eye on voltages to be sure it didn't drop to danger zone. I managed to get a few months out of it before it quit, swelled up like a balloon and started to smoke in my hull. I recently got one of these ballistic batteries to try in my ski from php, hopefully will have better luck with it. I also do not want to run a 14lb battery in my lightweight carbon circus so thanks to php for working with ballistic on this one. :)

So I see a lot of strong and legitimate negative opinions here after the fact yet I don't recall anyone warning others of this crap before. That is garbage for sure. X users need to whip some balls out once in a while and tell some truths about products. THANK YOU OP! It was on some list somewhere to eventually try one of these...

I get sick of hearing this we are a small community crap sometimes....who cares.....the truth shall set you free....(and save some of us from pure pure garbage).
