Anyone ran stock nozzle diameter on a 148 pump?

Just wonder if anyone has ran a stock 82mm nozzle on a 148 mag?

I've got a 144 Solas here with the changeable pump rungs but typically it don't fit my 148 Skat pump (was gonna use the Solas nozzle to tune then have a stocker bored out to the best diameter!)

So my stock raider nozzle fits straight onto the 148 but my gut feeling is it's too small at 82mm.... anyone ever tried it?

I'm closed course running buoys so might not be so bad, but I wanted to gain bottom end grunt....

my superfreak with a dasa 1000 had a 148 and it had a bored nozzle in it when I bought it.
it appeared to be spinning the prop to me so I put in a stock gp800 reduction nozzle and gained a bunch of bottom end , thrust and height on flips.
every dumb ass always says bore the nozzle , but a bigger nozzle isn't always the answer and usually isn't the right answer

I use a stock oem 08+ nozzle on my freak with a Maxx 148 setback pump, and it fits and works awesome. I see no need to bore it as the prop pitch is spot on for my setup.

Correct on all counts so far. From our past experience there are gains that can be made when boring the nozzles, bit the entire package has to be set up to ise that bored nozzle. Including the impeller pitch.
 
It seemed counter intuitive that the smaller nozzle worked better even when over propped. I would have thought the larger nozzle would compensate somewhat and work better, thus why I asked.
 
if its over propped, a smaller nozzle is not going to make anything better.
over prop means the motor doesn't have enough power to spin it.
boring the nozzle is making the exit less restrictive so the prop can spin easier and the motor can get into its powerband faster. same with cone size.
there is a ratio between pump size and reduction diameter that gets max efficiency. I don't know what that is but a bored nozzle can lessen efficiency and performance

I know how props and pumps work...it's over propped for what I want, pulls 7400rpm which is more than stock, but not close enough to the 8100 limiter. Hence, too much pitch.

I'd say the 85 was SLIGHTLY better off the bottom, but the 83 was much better in general.

I'll lose a bit of pitch, aim for the 8100 and probably gain a load of snap too.

This is a 1200 triple SJ so it's not your usual setup anyways

8100? Why? Keep an eye on wrist pin bearings. Also if your not using triple pipes you are probably way too far past peak torque at 8100. An all out world championship triple pipe race ski only spun 7800 +/-100
