BAM Purchase/Build Review

I have already posted my thoughts for my ride review on the BAM. However, I wanted to leave a review for Crazy Joe's Customs on the buying side, communication, the build, etc.

First off, great people. Joe and Joey are some of the coolest people I have met in this hobby. I had known them for about two years as we attended the same freeride every year, WaveRave. So it wasn't like I was giving a complete stranger money half way across the country.

Communication

Communication throughout the whole process was amazing. I am pretty sure they contacted me more than I had time for them. Every step of the build was well documented and every question I had for Joe or Joey was answered promptly even with the 3hr time difference. Joe called in weekly to see how I was doing, talk skis, BS about our jobs/etc. You don't get the days or weeks with no replies from these guys as you hear about with some builders. I still talk to both Joe and Joey more than once a week whether thats a phone call or texting.

Purchasing

Joe requires a deposit and then doesn't ask for more money until he's used all that initial deposit up. You don't have to drop a large sum of money right off the bat. Which I preferred anyways. I'm pretty sure I made two deposits and that was it.

Build

Extremely well documented as mentioned. I am fairly certain this hull was started in mid-February. He started working on it the day after I paid him. He had it done within 2 to 2 1/2 months and was building two other skis at the same time. Never heard any excuses of delays or anything in the build. Everything ran on time and as promised. This is a ZERO BS guy and it's not their full time occupation. Everything is done after work, which makes the turnaround time for completion of the hull even more impressive. These were things I was weary about paying for a new hull. Zero worries here. The only delay in getting the ski was my fault as I snapped my ankle drunk at the lake one weekend. The ski sat for another month at his place because I had medical bills piling up. Never once did I hear how I had to have it shipped out of his shop ASAP. Very understanding guy.

As far as building the BAM. Goes together amazing. Everything fits OEM. No junk inserts, no junk hood liner, no flimsy rideplate, etc. I know people building other hulls as we speak and they have to mod the hell out of them before they can even drop a motor in.

Delivery

We used Freightquote to ship the hull out here. Joe took the time wrapped the ski up perfectly and took the time to mod two pallets to fit the ski. He took it into his work and stayed there until the shipper picked it up, even though the guy was extremely late picking it up.

When the hull arrived, it was exactly how it was described and beyond that. His paint skills are absolutely amazing. We decided to give my ski that retro look and I get compliments on it wherever I go ride. No blemishes, no cracks, no inferior glass work. It truly was a work of art. The weight he tells you the ski will be is exactly how it comes out.

Final Thoughts

I think the single best thing that Joe does for his customers is that each ski doesn't leave his possession without custom HIN Tags and a legit title from the State of Michigan titled as a Crazy Joe's BAM. I was very worried about registering this ski in California being an aftermarket ski. The fact that he took his own time to have custom tags made for me and paid for the title made the title transfer process that much easier. I had it registered in California and titled as a BAM in 2 weeks. You don't have to put your SJ HIN tags on and title it as a Superjet. He makes it 100% legit.

I wouldn't hesitate to give these guys money for another hull. I am not lying when I say this process was so smooth. I don't beat around the bush and if something went bad, I'd be flat out honest on here. I went in expecting some bumps in the road and the only one we had was the damn shipping company. They told us they lost my hull at one point and all of us were so pissed. Again, I can't thank Joe and Joey enough for making this such a smooth and easy transaction. I ride my BAM probably 2-3 times a week in the ocean and it does the job man. Every one who has ridden comes back with a huge smile on their face and is truly impressed. Doesn't get anymore American than a badass jet ski built in the Motor City!

I'm considering one myself! As a complete newb to stand ups as well as trying to build one, it's good to hear that they are so helpful!
