Best free anti-virus software?

AV is for sheep, be smart about your browsing and save yourself some system resources (they are a huge system hog). I run malwarebytes once a year and usually come up clean and then uninstall it.

Avast is good although starting to get bloated with all the extra crap they offer now. Malwarebytes is probably the best. Run Firefox with adblock and noscript to keep yourself clean. Also run ccleaner once every week or so to help keep your pc cleaned up. www.filehippo.com has it all.

None for 20 years.

Once I saw Norton become the virus and I was like ...yea.... no.

The few times I have gotten something in 2 decades I just manually deal with it.

^Same, Anti-Virus software is superfluous . Keep all your real documents on a second hard drive. Use a Virtual Machine to download scary stuff like Torrents. If something happens, you can install windows 10 in less than 12 minutes these days.
