Converting race ski to freestyle

I had one of those Concorde 9/15's. Ran it 1 time and pulled it. Just did not work on my setup. Way to low. May be fine on non ported motor.

Im about to find out if I can make it work on a ported motor, if not I guess I will be in the market for a taller prop. It did however work really well on a non ported, piped, high comp 701 this summer. I am going through the motor quite a bit so I may slip the hell out of it for all I know.

How many degrees can you bend these props for tuning?

if its an old race boat and its all setup for that, don't try and turn it into something its not. every change you do, is not going to do much. I have an old race SJ similar to that and I tried to change it. it didn't really work any better. don't cut that rideplate, its not going to improve anything. get that intake grate welded for a few bucks and run it. if you want to do barrel rolls or nose stabs, you probably should get footholds. you aint never going to backflip that stock hull so don't even think that far ahead. those front sponsons do add stability, but they will rip off there if you jump the crap out of it. same with the rear hull extensions.
if you want to start doing rolls or stabs, crank the bars and gas it off every boat wake. never jump straight ever again
I don't intend on ever trying to flip this ski haha.. like I said in one of my earlier posts, I plan on buying an aftermarket hull in a couple years when it's in the budget. I'm just looking to make some inexpensive/free mods to improve the fun factor. It's fun to grip it and rip it at wot but I enjoy messing around on boat wakes and and bobbing around.

Gonna take a stab and say this was a Limited Setup. So, I doubt your taking a 55mph mod setup and trying to turn it into something. This is a decent platform to start with. He never said he wanted to flip it. Cutting the plate will help tremendously and it will not cost him anything, He is on a budget.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the setup on mine, the guy I bought it from said it was clocked at 55-56mph. I just read a post on ride plates and people said shortening. Them up made a big difference, especially when it comes to getting the nose out of the water. I'm about 160-170lbs so I'm thinking it will help me out. I've pretty much made the decision to cut it or trade if someone wants to, but how much of a difference will a straight vs. d cut make?

That only gonna do 55 if it was ported.
I haven't pulled the motor apart myself, the guy I bought it from bought it from his friend who built and raced it. I'm not sure what class but that's all I know. It runs strong so I didn't mess with it besides a carb rebuild kit. It beats my wife's Polaris slt750 which says 49-50mph on the gauge.

I saw the ad for that ski Iirc it was listed as a super stock
When did you see a post? I bought it a year ago. The guy I bought it from wasn't trying to sell it, I saw it in a parking lot at a garage and asked him about it, he said if I really wanted it he would sell it.

You got a awesome deal
He was gonna part it out then you stepped in at the perfect time

If you put a dry pipe with ecwi on it it would rip even harder. Just more hassle setting all that up. But it sounds like it is working well as is so I would probably leave it alone and ride

I'm trying to do some research on the pipe, the ski has dual cooling and there is a third spot where a cooling line was plugged. The Riva manifold has cooling ports on both top and bottom. I thought I had a picture of the motor when I pulled it to replace the starter but I can't find it. The hull has three pissers but only one was connected when I got it, I threw a Y fitting on the cooling line to connect a second one but the third one is still unused. I feel like this ski had a few setups over it's life.

Pipe is a RIVA Spec 2 Pipe. It is similar to a B Pipe. you can remove the water fittings and there is some jets that you can change to control water flow into the pipe. making it tuneable. Most likely it had a Dry Pipe in it at one point with the 3 pisser outlets.

Does that mean the pipe was setup with an ecwi previously?

Not necessarily. You said there was a 3rd fitting on manifold? That may have been the feed line for the 'headpipe' part of the chamber. Then you could have dual outlets from head. (I am not sure how Riva intended to route water in this pipe)

You had a couple questions:

1. About the D cut ride plate idea. I have that on my Wammer hull (SJ) and mostly love it. It’s fun for freestyle. It’s not fun for chasing boats or going full speed. It gets squirrelly at high speeds.

2. About footholds. Footholds are one of the best things you can have for Freestyle, but they’re not necessary unless you’re doing backflips or barrel rolls (going inverted). You can get a set of Hydro-Turf tray lifter wedges for about 20-30 bucks. Stick them on the side of your tray, wear some sneakers, and voila, you’ve got poor man’s footholds. I used to do deep subs, inverted nose stab 180’s, you name it on 550s and 650s with lifter wedges before I bought my first ski that had footholds already installed.
