Looks like i'm out for Daytona dammit!

Been having an issue with my left shoulder for a few years now.Always sore after riding but would go away after a few days.Working out didn't help it,but was aware and avoided working my shoulders too much. Then about a month ago l fell backward weed eating, onto a board sticking up about a foot on our raised gardening beds.Landed elbow first on the edge of the board.Dam that just @#$%&* hurt! i also took out a eggplant in the process.Wife was upset about that-WTF! (what about my elbow woman!)

So long story short l get rotator cuff surgery on the Dec 29th.lnsurance was starting new Jan 1 with a $3000 deductible,l had to go for it.My arm will be in a sling for 6 weeks:mad: and looking forward to PT,that should be a blast

l hate it,but it is also a slow time of year for my business. So at least that will work out.

Hope everyone has a blast! l'm gonna miss seeing a bunch of you all l only get to see at Daytona.Everyone be safe and l'll see you all next year

Alcohol will help you forget about your jet ski. There is alcohol in Daytona. You can also borrow a shoulder to cry on since you are short one. Your doctor may tell you not to come and ride, but I bet your mental health professional would encourage your presence.

I don't do much drinking, but if we are in the same place at the same time and there are drinks available, say hi and I'll buy you one.

I just finished watching the entire Home Improvement series(the 90s sitcom with Tim Allen). There's a pretty good episode where he messes up his shoulder, but refuses to stay in the hospital. He's about to break the record of long running home improvement shows. "Does everyone know what time it is?" TOOL TIME!

Check out the show: "Last man standing." Pretty much the same but he has three daughters instead of sons.

@Sanoman Make sure to stretch and lightly work out your good arm. Studies show it will help increase strength and reduce down time in your bad arm.

I started watching Last Man Standing with the girlfriend a year ago. It made me miss Home Improvement, so I bought the entire series on DVD.

Another week and a half in my sling hopefully.l'll be ready to get rid of this padded mess from around my neck! Pretty much 24/7 in it,except for showers.
l was able to meet my PT guy about a week ago.He was recommended to me because he likes to push a patient hard and l don't mind cause l want to try to get back where l was working out.He gave me some exercises ( mostly passive) to start get everything moving again. That is already helping a lot.l know it is going to take a while, probably 6-9 months to get better.Looks like riding my ski is out for awhile but that's ok.Looks like someone else is going to be dialing in my circus when l finish it.
lf you have looked at my nutrition thread on plant based lifestyle then you know l would be doing a number of things to help promote the growth and repair of my shoulder.l've been taking in more protein, juicing a concoction of veggies, flax seed oil, glucosamine, chondroitin, and b12. May sound a little too natural for some but time will tell

l go Monday for my 6 weeks check up.Hope to lose the sling that l wear 24/7 except for showers. But in some ways l worry about not having it and doing something wrong. The shoulder doesn't feel so bad when l have had the sling off but the soreness at times can be a little tough.
I met my PT guy last week and l think we are going to get along well.He knows l want to be active again so looks like l'm in for some pain! Just gonna have to suck it up if l ever want to ride again.

Which means that the Circus build l have going on right now is getting another test pilot.Looks like Hornedogg has got a new ride for a while!

Mom had her rotator cuff fixed just before xmas, my dad has both of his done, hopefully mine stay good. Get that pt to put it to you. Push yourself as much as you can and you should be back on the ski in no time! And if you need a safe space for your ski, i can come get it and put some test hours on it fo ya!

So here it is post 11 weeks this Friday from surgery. And 5 weeks into PT.
Tony,my physical therapist has turned out to be great as l was told.l am going once a week to see him and then doing my exercises at home twice a day.Just in the last week my shoulder has really started to open up with movement. The scapula is doing great and l have at least 10% left to go before full range of motion.l go back to the ortho doc next Friday so he can check to see if l have full range. From the looks of performance l should be there.
Now,l have to really watch myself on using the shoulder.Basically feeling and great and doing something stupid.

Post 14 weeks ago from surgery report.l had a great check up with my ortho doc.Full range of motion raising my arm straight up,and about 15° left for my arm to swing out from my waist to the the side.PT said that movement is the last to come back.Got released to ride my bike outdoors! Yes! He said no mtn biking (d'up!) and l should be careful not to run into anyone or fall off while riding!
So almost back to normalcy.l just have to stay off my skis for a while. But I'm ok with that if it works for the long run. Thanks for the great replys!

@thrillhill Yea,sorry to hear that Jim! Scott texted me Saturday about what happened. How long you out? At least now if l come down,l'll have a drinkin buddy!

Update-My shoulder is getting a lot better and tempting to want to ride, but NO way do l want to go back over the last 5 months.A rotator cuff won't be fully attached till around 6 months is what the doc told me.ln fact,l go see him today.
Been doing a lots of reps with light weights in the gym per my PT.Still gets sore for a couple days afterward,so l know lm not healed at this point.

June 29th update.
Shoulder seems to be doing great at this point.l still don't lift anything too heavy with it.Been back training with my girl at her gym.Per the PT,l don't do any overhead yet with weights with my shoulder. But l am allowed to do bicep, triceps, and deltoids. As well as legs, back and core.l feel like the plant based diet l have been on has helped speed my recovery time because of all the healthy foods that l do eat.And from researching this appears to be correct. You can't be my age (61) eating crap foods and come back from injuries this quick.Insert atta-boy....
Since it started getting hot here, the smell of two stroke oil is like an aphrodisiac! I started up the 735 in the surf ski and it was almost overwhelming! ;) Now that the Circus is almost done,I'm really over being stranded on shore! But l have been able to ride my bicycle more and will get out and start riding pretty soon. @Joe Dart and @hornedogg79 Lets ride!
