MSD total loss issues

I have a brand new unit that I bought with a lightened flywheel. Installed everything per MSD specs and triple checked everything. Air gap was at .060". Everything fired up and ran great for about 10 minutes then it just died. No spark. Checked everything and was all good but no voltage coming from pickup coils. Ohm out good. Pulled cover and noticed metal debri and plastic shavings. The dang magnet came out of flywheel . Chewed up ring gear and pickup coils but all are in working condition. So last night I devcon epoied a new magnet in it. Fired right up and for about another 10 minutes then rear cylinder started dropping off. Pulled it out again and coils and magnet are good. But what I did notice was my ring gear is chomped more, my Bendix has more markings and just saw that my 2 wires coming out where getting touched by the ring gear. Everything is pulled back nice and tight. Is it possible that my flywheel is mismachined? Like its pushing onto crank to deep. Everything is brand new, from motor, crank, flywheel key, bolt etc...... Im at a loss
 
Call MSD right now before you do anything else, Someone else had this issue multiple times with a MSD flywheel and Im sure Tech line will get tired of hearing about it and hopefully make some changes

I could throw a sales pitch on you, but a few people on this forum would disapprove and this thread would go to hell. With that being said, I highly recommend Philip Clemmons from P&P Performance for your MSD needs. He is the only person I would trust to setup a MSD system if I owned one

On this "wire near flywheel" issue, you have to put all 4 wires thru the 2 holes in the grommet, 2 wires in each hole, use the holes near the curve in grommet, they are closest to intake manifold. Seal off the other holes with silicone.

Instructions say Air gap is .050 to .090...

.if I remember correctly, Iam at .060
And have no shims

You said your at .060

Sorry, yes I'm at .060 now, but my magnet is now flush with my flywheel. The new one I had to epoxy in. When first installed unit even without shims I was at around .030". It was like MSD didn't install the original magnet correctly

If you can disconnect the pickups, what i would do is:
Ride, if the read cyl drops.
Take plugs out and crank and see if you get 2 strong blue sparks.
If not, try and disconnect the plug for pickups and try to "short circut" the pickup trigger signal and see if you got enough spark
 
I don't know what is causing the op's pick up/ flw magnet clearance problem. I do, however, recommend he fasten his pick up wires. They are made of cheap, coarsely stranded copper and just love to fracture from vibration- no, I did not get this from a book or the web, just learned the hard way. Pic shows my preferred way....

On the magnet falling out part, I bought a MSD TL with some lee stone mods. one off them was the magnet hade 4 zille hammer marks, too hold the magnet in place.
