My surf/freeride/freestyle RN build - Part II

This build started about a year ago. I bought a ´99 Superjet, decent shape.
Well, decent doesn't cut it. My skis need to be top-notch mechanically and nice cosmetically.
This is what it looked like:

First mods were fuel filler and other finger throttle. Also added UMI 4 degree bars and ODI grips. Removed choke assembly, cleaned and painted the carbs. After that I rebuilt the carbs, with new needles and seats and all. I also installed the JSS S/S screw kit and changed pop-off spring.
I then removed 1 of the screens in each F/A.
I even sealed off the foam fill holes. I used this plumbing block-off thingy, epoxied in place.

I had a friend of mine fixing the hood, it was kind of cracked. He painted it 99 Yamaha blue. Since I buy almost all my stuff from John at JSS, he gave some stickers for the hood. It is my ski on the website, Swedish flag and all.
You also see my first cart. It was light, easy to break down but, sorry to say, a real POS to use...
I also installed my "trade-mark" item, the battery quick-disconnect. Easy access, easy charging, just great!

After this I actually just rode for a while. Until I started to learn to do subs....
Ka-ching!
Snapped 2 of the old motor mounts. Got 4 new mounts and a new rubber dampner installed. Everything was peachy again. For a while. Until the ski died after a sub. Noooothing happened when hitting the green button....

Note to self; if the starter cables are so oxidated they pulverize when you try to cut them, throw them out and build new ones.


I use 16 mm2 (AWG5) oxygen-free copper cable intended for car hi-fi. It is very soft and is excellent for these types of applications. I also use gold plated lugs which I crimp AND solder. To finish it off, I use some heat-shrink tubeing.

Bullet-proof, I´d say.

This was about July last year, found this site along with pwctoday.
Until now I've been riding my Nujet impeller, Protec ride plate and grate.
There was something missing in the handling department, and after reading all the feedback, I ordered a Worx 201 grate, Solas Concorde 13-17 and a Blowsion CF d-cut ride plate. I also got the Wet Wolf cone.

WOW!

I got a different ski!!! Amazing hook-up, better everything.

That Blowsion plate was an overpriced POS in my book. The handling is very nice, keeps the nose up and allows you to really carve turns. I also feel it soften impacts in the same way a CF bike frame "smoothens" out bumpy roads.
But come on, I needed 2 ½ hours of grinding and making spacers to get the plate to fit and not rub the pump. And yes, I know how handle a wrench so to say.

I understand it is a "custom" part, does "custom" mean that the customer has to make it fit????

Well, then came August. That means some good strong winds. Surf's up!
Realised I needed pole limiting rope and some hood straps. I got some tie-downs, some s/s hardware and some plastic buckles. Brought out the trusty Husky sewing machine and went to work. Came out pretty good.:biggrin:

Rode the ski like this until early November. When the air temp hits the mid-to-high 30ies it is cold....

Operation winter tear down started.:smile:

Is it not typical that we had about 45-50 air temp during December? And no running ski?:banghead:

So I got some footholds. Wanted some straps for my front feet during surfing/carving turns. Ordered some holds and b-stock and brought out the saw....:Banane01:
Was not too hard, I would do it in 1/4 of the time next time!
Also made a bracket for my straps.

After that came turfing... My first turf job aside from a 550 in 1990.:bigeyes:
Man, I am old?!
It took quite some time to cut the pieces, trim, glue, heat etc, etc.

Used 8+8 mm underpadding. Also did the rails while at it. The left gunrail came out really crappy, that was when I lost my "virginity". After that, it was easier. Just let the glue dry, heat it like h*ll, and be quick while putting it down. Then just hammer it, cut it and sand it at an angle.

While at it, I cut 2" off the pole and re-enforced top and bottom. Also painted the alloy parts, they had started to corrode. Sprayed the bracket as well. Installed it with a UMI straight bar, new gas cable and a TBM adjustable finger throttle. Oh, also turfed the chin pad, the foam was like 4 pounds, full of water. Did I mention the new Blowsion spring as well?
Got some 24/7 hood hooks too.

My hood seal was .....tired. I got the JSS seal system, seems OK this far (2 rides).

I also started on the motor. I renovated the starter (bearing and seals) and re-painted it, there was some rust.
I put Carbontech reeds in, mostly for ease of mind.
I replaced my old primer set-up, tried to make it a bit more sano...

I managed to get my hands on a brand new FP Type 4 dry pipe. I modded it as suggested by JSS, both the manifold and stinger. I also needed to work on the top bracket to make the pipe and manifold align properly. I gave it a "30 minutes polish job" to make it look decent. I made a flush kit and got a new gel type battery, which I "bail-proofed".

I also blocked off the front inlets to the hood and opened up the rear ones. I just used my Dremel for the rear ones. I had some rubber trim home which I used, looks neat, very "oem" IMO.

Still some carb tuning left, just put new spark plugs in this week as well.
I have a set of Kenney Keepers in transit along with a new lanyard.
The ski is ready for action, I just need a set of "Cahones Grandes" (spl?) and we can go BF-ing together!!!

So I was bored. That is the reason for this thread. I am playing in the "little league" compared to most of the builds here, but I did it on my own, on my own free time. That counts for something, right!?:cheer:

Not really. For me, Metallica is hard core enough. Don't really like the death metal stuff, more into " Iraaaaannn Maiden" , Hammerfall and AC/DC and such.
