Nose Stabs

Any recommendations on how to get more vertical on smaller boat wakes? I pre-hop in, crank the bars, kiss the gas cap, and pin it, lift my legs and my stabs end up looking more like this.

you really dont need a wake to do a nose stab... I dont ski anymore since I got out of it 2 years ago but nose stabs were one of my favorite things to do.... try and do them without a wake.....it will be much easier and faster to practice not having to worry about a wake... also try and get out when it is fairly calm if possible so you dont have to worry about anything but you and the ski. You are prob. trying to muscle things around and lifting your legs up too much or something.... try going straight at about 3/4 throttle for a little bit then start turning right so that the nose just barely goes right.... then punch it and crank the bars all the way left.... it takes a lot of tries so do not get discouraged if you dont get it right away.... it took weeks to learn for me and hours each day on the weekends... you have to let the ski do most of the work... figure out the steering and timing.... your body should kinda just follow the flow of the ski.... just keep an athletic type stance with both feet in the footholds... remember though that you need a little speed going into it... too slow or too fast not good... you will find the right amount after trial and error :)

He used to have some sweet looking bronco 180'/nose stabs. They were textbook.

You almost have to think about subbing the ski on flatwater to really get it inverted.

I forgot!
Make a setup wake and drop in at a slightly skewed angle opposite of the way you want to stab in. That give a bit more time to get more rotation as you ride up the small wake.

Thanks, I have been trying on flat water on my own wakes as well. I bascially act like i'm about to sub it, get on plain, pre-hop to one side and crank the bars. I think I'm pretty close as I can get them on the bigger wakes. I'm on an older heavy SN, saving up for a lightweight hull.

I normally do that, I try to after the second wake off the boats and try to catch the wake at the break to try and fling me around. I just need more practice I think.

try with no prehop and no wake at all... you have to get used to getting your handlebars to the right a little before you gas and crank left... its all timing and it takes some time and practice. Once you get this process down it will carry over into doing it off your own wake and doing it off big wakes... you will get big air off wakes and be able to come down completely vertical... its so fun! good luck

OK guys I tried to do a nose stab this weekend without a wake and it felt more like a turn sub although the back of ski came clean out of the water...is this some what right?

It's mostly body position. I'm no expert but I think my form is pretty good on stabs.

Its all about body position and committing. If you just turn the bars, you spin flat and land flat. Lean into the wave the direction you are going to turn the bars, turn the bars and give it gas! The bigger you get them the more you have to control how much you lean, gas to give ect....
