Plant Based Diets

I definitely recommend a plant based diet. Take it day by day incorporating small changes into your diet and eventually you won't crave processed foods after seeing the way to feel afterwards. I am by no means a vegan or anything, but meat is probably only 20% of my diet. I would also try and cut sugars and alcohol consumption also.

Starting my 4th month of this way of eating.Due to some health issues that l'm dealing with right now.Been good so far with just a few bumps, but my overall energy levels and well being have been improved.l am not a vegan for the fact l still eat fish. All jokes aside, yes l know they are not animals! Otherwise no dairy and no alcohol. But there are a few beers that l can drink,so not so bad.lt is not a cheaper way to eat, just better for me.

Started back at the gym a couple weeks ago and that is doing good.l just need to put back the 10 lbs l have lost so far.More updates as l progress

It is good you are getting some protein and omega 3's from the fish but you should add a couple eggs a day to your diet for the cholesterol and saturated fats.

The Lecithin in egg yoke is brain food, contains B vitamin choline to help build acetylcholine for memory and cholesterol is an antioxidant for the brain. Eat quality eggs, hormone & antibiotic free (per the egg farm claim, ha).

Diet? Simple:
1 Calorie = 4.184 kJ = 4184 J
That's energy.
Chemical Potential Energy -> Kinetic Energy
(Energy in -> energy out)

Use the energy you consume.
Eat a large variety of foods. Every food has important nutrients.
Moderate sugar, avoid processed foods, and reduce dairy (so your hormones aren't a mess)

If you're trying to add weight, then do it with a variety of proteins from different sources. Organic eggs are higher in protein and taste much better.

Omega-3/6/9 need to be balanced. Most people are low on 3's. Supplement with 3.
Your intestines are covered with good bacteria for good digestion. There is alot of surface area in your intestines.. Probiotics will help
Most people are deficient in Vitamin D, so supplement with it. (best to get blood work to see exactly how much)

I started working out 3 months ago and I spent a lot of time researching nutrition.. Just to find myself taking a laid back approach. IMO "Meal plans" are for competing athletes and not for me. I weigh myself, take my BMI, and fat % every week and adjust my diet that way.

plant based diets are very very healthy and there is no downsides. it does take discipline. once we reach our 40's we need much less meat and need to be more careful to keep the fitness up and the weight off. Check out Dr McDougal's starch based dieting.

Well,it's been over a year since l started on a new path with health and diet.No beef, chicken,or pork.l also cut out any processed sugars.Overall l feel great and it has been interesting to see how it has changed me.l lost 20 lbs in the first 6 months but have not lost anymore.l have gained back about 10 lbs.The weight loss was not part of the plan but it was nice to get back to my high school weight and be 60 years old!
My wife and l have learned so many new ways to work with foods and food preparation.Lots of great foods you can make without meat.Lots of research before making something new.l go to my MD every 6 months for a full lab panel and checkup. All my levels are where they should be with some things being lower than the averages.Mostly blood sugar levels and cholesterol.Back a few months ago l added going to the gym 4 times a week for an hour workout with free weights and 30-45 minute cardio.i also try to ride my bike several times a week. That has been hard but now has been paying off.
l can't say l haven't wanted to certain foods but it has been more sugar items than anything else. Why l started this path was for medical reasons but it has become part of my life now.lt is not for everyone but has really helped me out.l only wish l would have started a lot earlier in life. And vegans are still weird people:confused:

much respect for being able to completely shake things up. especially at that age where like me you probably had some pretty ingrained eating habits. i have been trying to alter my diet and am realizing how mentally addicted to certain foods i am. i cannot shake the bar-b-q trailer habit i have. ribs, mustard sauce, greens, ridiculously sweet baked beans and sweet potato pie. they are only open on weekends and i dream of it all week. soft drinks are another addiction. doesnt feel like a meal with out it.

hope i can succeed like you have

Protein, fat, greens and very low carbohydrate diet works for everyone. We are all the same and our bodies create insulin when we eat carbs. Yes, some people have sensitivities with certain foods like dairy, beans or nuts etc, but for the most part we are the same. The metabolic type diet looks to be on the same level as the blood type diet. However, if it is working for you and you are able to stick to it, then more power to you. :)

Great video here:
I totally agree. Follow a thin person around all day and you will find many activities and few trips to restaurants. Follow a fat person around all day and you will see fewer activities and many more trips to great places to eat, find donuts, treats and more food. End of story.

My diet depends on what " phase im in at that time. I lift weights 5 days a weeks and if im in a bulking phase its lots of protein and a good amount of COMPLEX carbohydrates. If im in a maintenance phase i stick to protein, healthy fats, min carbs. If im an a lean phase its almost all protien with VERY little carbs. BY far the BIGGEST improvement over all was COMPLETELY removing ANY type of SODA POP from my LIFE. That s*it will KILL you lol ... but it tastes sooooo good. Also please do your best to stay away from McDonalds ( there are virtual DEATH DEALERS in disguise) I am 18 months into a weight training lifestyle and I have managed to go from 205lbs 20% body fat to 210lbs with 12% body fat. As for the Plant based deal .. ( i know ill get ripped on for this ) I have done extensive reading and research and you just cannot get the proper amounts of protien , iron , ect for the weight training I do . ( yes you can if you supplement.. which is what all plant based people say right off the bat .. what they dont realize is ..in those supplements where do you think the proteins come from ? Thats right Animal based . just my .02
