Other Registering a Rickter as a Rickter

I was wondering if anyone has succeeded in registering a rickter as a 2011, 12 ect. rickter. I have a 300sx vin, but if I can register it as a rickter, I much rather would. My XFS has the tag inside of the hull.

I don't know about NY laws. But here in MI, I did an assembled title. Just showed a receipt for the hull, and they issued me a title "2011 EMESKY" and a HIN, then went to a local trophy shop and had HIN tags made. 100% legit. No headaches. Good luck.

Swanny your going to have to coach me,
I must have had a bad draw, the lady gave me a ton of hassle on the REV.
Also, does insurance cover an assembled hull?

I had a battle with mine as well but still got it done in the end. They always seem to find one thing the get hung up on, and it's never the type of thing you expect.

They will want to see receipts and pics of the completed build but make sure to include a couple of the bare hull. All they want is their taxes so just show the cost of the hull and say you are transfering 100% of everything else from another ski that is already current on it's taxes. In the end, all they will have on the books for tax value is the cost of the hull. I pay less taxes on my Trinity than I do on my wifes 07 SJ.

Insurance will vary by State and company. Lengthy discussions on this subject already and while most have been unsuccessful, a few have managed to get aftermarket skis insured. We have yet to see one that actually pays out on a claim though so proceed with caution.

It was super easy in California believe it or not...

Cost me $29.50 for registration and title.

Instead of bringing in a bunch of receipts for some of this and some of that, I said I brought a "Rickter Hull Kit" and then transferred the driveline and electronics from a previously registered ski. This way, I only had to bring in 1 invoice showing tax has been paid once. That way, they also couldn't ask any questions, well how do you build a hull without "xyz" type thing.

Matt Smith did the same thing... No problems.

Matt Insured his down here for $20 a month. He's got 15k coverage. Im thinking about insuring my ski as well.

By the way, you want them to assign you a new "HIN" even though the rickters have a tag inside of them.

Well let's say I wasn't in&out in 5 mins. You just have to talk to the right person. They have all the forms for it. I did also have to show registration for a donor hull for the drivetrain, even though I'm not running one single thing from the SXR. As far as insurance, Allstate won't insure me because "EME is not on their list of PWC's". My buddy Todd has his Trinity insured through some place in Rochester for 15K. I'll check into that more. I don't worry about when I'm riding It, I only think about it when I'm trailering it for fear of getting asspacked!

My Trinity is registered in Texas as a Trinity EVO Pro, I didnt do it since I bought it second hand so no help there. It is insured through Nationwide for 20K and have been assured it will be paid in a total loss situation (we will see). I could not register my BOB in TX as a Ski Clinic or BOB, asked Fish&Game about a Rickter and they did'nt know. I would say talk to a different person at the office till someone tells you what you want to hear.

Ask someone who's done it legitamately from NY. This state should be called NO York. I'm sure it's a pain here. Even a basic DMV transaction is a pain.

^ not simple whatsoever, they want receipts, photos of molds, and an inspection of the finished product both b4 and after drive train install.
You definitely got the wrong person. All I had was a receipt for the hull, They asked me where I got the motor from and I told them it was from my SXR. They wanted the Registration for it. I told them I stripped it and sold the hull. Luckily Dave did not transfer the registration yet. They did a search and spit out a duplicate registration. filled out some forms for assembled watercraft. No photos nec. or inspection. That's only nec. for autos and motorcycles. You just have to wink, and sweet talk the bearded fat lady behind the counter.

I know when I was trying to do it in Idaho they were asking too many questions, sounds like NY is the same way.

If its too difficult I can reg. it in CA for you then you can transfer it to NY.

This very much depends on the state, the office you're dealing with, and the person within that office you're dealing with.
The home-built registration is loosely regulated on a federal level via the USCG. Actual implementation of specifics is up to the states.

Yeah NY is not an easy state. I have registered 20+ skis with "lost titles". But they all had VINs. I will try to register it as a home built, and just try to figure out receipts for the cost of the hull.

Every person at the DMV is different
The First Lady I delt with wanted all supplies receipts, proof of molds, how long it took...... And gave me a bunch of paperwork to fill out

lost the paperwork and went in a week later and a different lady filled out all the paperwork I needed and I was out in 15 min.

The "number" on the inside of the rickter hull is just a serial number. In NJ, the state police have to inspect the ski to make sure it was never a production boat that was already issued a HIN. I printed the RRP website and showed it to the officer doing the inspection. Then you have to provide the DMV w/reciepts for materials used to construct the hull and pay sales tax that amount. (even though you paid tax on the materials already?) Its a PIA here but not the end of the world. Like MattE said, every state is different on how to register a "homebuilt" boat.

air blair

you are the reason
In michigan last year i had them do a title for me on a bob hull, says bob make and model they required a receipt on purchase of hull. Same thing on my rickter xfs. I tryed to get make rickter model xft but the best i could get them to do is just straight rickter on the title. Both skis they issued new registration numbers and hull id numbers to be etched, scribed or tagged to the hull. No problems on my end. Secretary of State just had to do some different paperwork their not used to doing. Don't forget to bring a bill of sale even if you just made it yourself. lol
As for insurance i havnt crossed that bridge yet but swannysxr the whole getting ass packed or stolen while on trailer bit concerns me or even a sunken ski with these aftermarket hulls.

I'll find out where my buddy had his Trinity insured, I've been with Allstate forever and they were no help.
