SJ on jetboat?

I know I've seen a pic around somewhere with a superjet hauled onto a yam jetboat. Has anyone here built something to either tow their SJ behind a boat in the water or some kind of ramp to bring it onto their swim deck?

I have a Yamaha 242 limited S jetboat. The pic I saw was of a SJ winched up onto rails that sat between the U shape gap between the rear seats leading from the water. The biggest downside would be not being able to lift the tray over the pump plugs if you suck something up. I don't want to bring it up onto the swim platform from the side since the side lip isn't large enough and I don't want to scratch up the boat.

The most convenient idea would be to have some type of floating dock that's also towable behind the boat with the SJ on it. Ideas?

following this. I've got a 230sx and have been trying to come up with a solution as well. I thought about building an aluminum stand that attaches where the table stand tube does.

I'd be worried about popping those. They're not cheap! Interesting idea, though.

Edited- have me thinking this might not be a bad idea. I could prob even keep it inflated next to my boat at the marina. I just wonder how hard it would be to get the SJ onto the tube from the water?

They are pretty tough... getting a ski on and off and secured for the ride would be the trick. Lol.

Yeah, I just edited my response after looking into them. I think I could secure it since it has handles on the tube. The 4 place tube could handle the weight and it should tow nicely. My only concern would be how hard it would be to get onto the tube from the water. Especially deep water with nothing to keep the tube stationary.

If you can tie it to the transom with the front on the swim platform, it will be quite a bit more stable. We used to tie 2-3 person tubes to the transom with the front third on the platform to transport across the lake.

You could tie up to load it up and then let it out. Keep the weight in the middle and slightly back.

I wonder if the rear transom is structurally needed or if I could make it removable. Could easily ride an SJ up into it if not and easily tie this up next to my boat at the marina. I think the SJ would fit like a glove and it has towing points.

Id imagine the transom needs to be there for structural support. Not necessarily to float or hold your sj, but to tow it Id want the transom. If you were able to swing it down to load your ski and close it after... I bet youd be fine.

Towing a ski at speed will push water thru the pump, the cylinder and into the pipe and possibly drown the motor if the pump remains in the water, so be careful of that. I have a SX230 also, great boat, the jet wash will cause issues if you plan on Towing something close behind.

Which is why I dont plan on towing the ski in the water.

how do you like the yamaha jet boat?

Love it. Bought it new in 2012 and haven't had a single issue with it. I only use it on a river though. They're light boats and I wouldn't like it on very choppy water. But handling wise it'll out maneuver a regular boat and it rides like it's on rails. There is a learning curve with jet boats when it comes to docking but once learned these boats are extremely nimble.

Yeah I found some owners manual. I'm thinking if I go this route of cutting out a middle piece of the rear transom and having it being able to swing down and then swing it back up for towing.

What if you came up with some kind of mount, imagine a backboard (Like emt's use) and the ski is pulled up on it, it would block the water flow to the pump...... Would have to have some kind of hinge mount off the rear deck.

I'd rather not add anything semi permanent to the boat that could hurt resale. I'm eventually going to get a larger cruiser one day.

I really like the dinghy idea. It's the most convenient too since it won't be in the way. Plus it'll provide a place to store the ski while docked in my marina.

What about an inflatable kayak? At least people can go around with it while hanging out. Problem is IDK if it can be towed.

EDIT: Thinking of the physics of it, if you tow the jet ski, and strap the kayak to it, probably it will be ok? Just the Kayak was never designed to travel at 15-20mph

Not a big deal and I installed one on each engine in my jetboat in case I ever need to operate on one engine. But the biggest problem would be the nose of the SJ would probably continually want to torpedo down under the water.

Dinghy is a much better idea. The kyak will not tow well any will roll way easier than a dinghy.

If the transom of the dinghy was removable or on a hinge, you could make cheap basic bunks from 2x4s. Water in an inflatable dinghy really doesnt matter. You have to pop the inflatable to sink it...
