I got an sxr 800 with a brand new versi plug scupper in the drain plug hole. I replaced the rubber scupper in case it was the problem. This aint leaking.

When ski engine is not running and ski is sitting in water there is water coming out of the drainage hole on the left side orientation facing forward on ski. I can check plug is sealed and it is.

If i put ski on trailer and out of water. If i fill ski with water only a few inches so not reaching exhaust exit and hold versi plug shut there is water coming out the exhaust.

Conclusion some how drain plug tube and exhaust tube are sending water to eachother under the tray.

If i stick my finger down drain plug it feels like rubber behind the fibreglass firewall.

Anyone seen this. Anyone know how to fix.

I dont want to block scupper.

I havenot seen this, but it sounds as you have either a bad rubber exhaust hose, or rotted tube in the hull. You may have to cut the tray open to repair.

Are you sure the water running out of the exhaust is not just in the tube? Do you start the ski and blow out the water before your test?

Put the ski back in the water, strapped down to the trailer and look with a flashlight and see if you can see where it is coming in at. Also listen carefully if you can hear it coming in under the tray area. (Exhaust)

Typically it is the drive shaft bearing carrier at the firewall that leaks. These get dry rotted, and or the bearings/seals go bad.

Salt water ski?

The exhaust tube might have a hole in it from salt water not getting flushed out all the way. The SXR has a wet tray area. That means it uses closed cell foam(styrofoam) and water is sloshing around in your gunwales. Saw a guy from Florida posting about this few months ago.

Dual Versi plugs should make sitting water not possible. I have done this mod and can say I never have water sitting in the hull after riding surf or subing. Post #15 The main reason I did this mod was to lose all that water weight. Imagine all of the gunwale/tray area with water in it? The Stock siphon only picks at the driveshaft bulkhead, leaving all that water behind it.

Ok. i found it. Was pissing water in between the metail exhaust tube through the hull and the exhaust flange. As bird pointed out it seems salt water can sit there. I flush it out very well but i guess if ya dont have a dain plug in the back some salt is sitting there. Anyway cant replace exhaust flange and rubber seal easily because it is the corroded i cant get it off probably without grinding. So i epoxied the crap out of it and put silicon all round the rubber seal and it seems to be good now. Water tested today. and also used ski as a bathtub on trailer to see if it would leak out and it didnt.

Now however i find water is leaking via the ride plate bolts. Yesterday i put silicon in them when i did them up. Does not seem to have worked. tomorrow will probably try sikaflex. Didnt have any yesterday.
