Other Virus Nonsense

I signed my hospital up for that a couple days ago. We are being told to keep our masks and use them for a week, and that we cant bring in outside PPE. Since my wifes hair salon has been considered a non essential business and ordered closed I am taking her UV sterilizer so I can treat the masks. Hope yall are stayin safe.

I can be conservative and bash on idiots all I want, doesn't mean I'm not being responsible. I call my grandparents every day to make sure they're ok and am avoiding them. Don't get your panties in a wad because I was smart enough to have a "semi-auto" first.

I sense some butt-hurt.

What position are you at your hospital?

FYI UV only works on what the light can reach so anything internal or in shadow is not sterilized. UV is typically used on objects that don't have internal structures like scalpels and other instruments.

There was an article published about "sterilizing" masks by baking them at 150 degrees F for like 10 minutes. (https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/3QYVWO4kj5qwuSHnhcM9uQ ) Can't comment on the validity of the process or the testing conditions though.

Unrelated to the virus but I am developing a medical waste sterilizer at work that uses a version of that process.

Depending on the process outline the temp, time and conditions would vary. For moist heat, you need a minimum temp of 121C for a minimum of 12 minutes in the presence of moisture. That is the basic version that meets the sterilization requirements of ISO 17665.

You could get reasonably close to that requirement if you set an oven at 250f and put a bowl of water under the mask, set the mask on the grate, and placed a pan over the mask. Even better if you have a circulating oven.

This all depends on the material of the mask though.

I am an ER nurse, this is my first year as a nurse. Thanks for the offer turtle! Might have to hit you up if it gets worse. @smokeysevin good info on that uv sterilizer. I just didnt want to stick masks in the same oven I cook my family dinner in. Even though I know the heat would kill the virus.

I get home from work yesterday and my wife tells me our son went to do some work at a clinic working on the front door (installing door vinyl for a sign company). After the owner specifically told his employees they would NOT be working around any hospitals or related businesses a couple weeks ago.He comes home and is upset, which in turn makes his mother upset and she starts crying.Which makes him more upset...
The sickness is bad,but the emotional end of it is as bad. And I don’t see it getting any better for a while.Nonsense or not,the virus is causing so many other issues

Man the community has done so much nice stuff for us. Former sheriff sent us pizza, starbucks sent us coffees, beans and pastries krispy kreme giving away free dozen donuts to all healthcare workers. Low patient load right now, as bad as this is some places its made work much more enjoyable here.

Our two local hospitals have only had one person, all others have been sent home and are recovering. Hope it stays this way. I've just been spending time in the woods and on the river with the dog past two weeks. Played GoldenEye for 5 hours yesterday, beat 00 Agent Bunker with only Throwing Knives :)

Thank you for helping people. I'm good with computers not people. At work, we're currently spinning up COVID stuff at Tent Events, so people can log into a website and check their results. From the sounds of it, that might not be needed with the new 15 minute turn around I saw in the news last night.

Man a 15 minute turnaround would be amazing! I would love to know if I am truly being exposed to it or not. I have a pt right now low 02 sats wheezy hypotensive that most likely has it. But I wont find out because they dont tell us their results since it takes almost a week to get them back.
Starting tomorrow one area of our ER will become a hot zone for covid patients. I signed up to work it since its 100% protection 100% of the time. Seems better than guessing or wondering if you have the right ppe or being in there for an hour before you find out they want a covid test.

Only stock i'm invested in atm is AYTU, this is the company distributing the 2-10 min blood prick test you have seen all over the news the last few days. Can show if you are currently sick or have had it in the past. 90% accuracy, if you show positive on this test they will then have you do the abbot swab. At least that seems to be the game plan. https://aytubio.com/
