What truck?

So I bought a 2014 Yamaha AR192 and I have my Superjet .. Total approximately 3500lbs. I'm turning in my Hyundai lease in September 2019 and want to get used truck in a few months and eliminate payments in September.

1. No family so don't need 3rd row seating
2. Travel to NYC a few times a month so short wheel base is +++
3. More then enough towing capability for 3500lb
4. Budget up to $15k
5. Ultra reliability for 500 mile round trip to Lake George a few times a year. The remaining time will be a train station car.

I could raise my budget, but i'd like to stay around $10k and buy out right.
I want to hear the suggestions. Right now i'm thinking of a 2007-2015 Tahoe, but my price range is only returning trucks with 100k+ miles. I feel wrong to spend $12k on a truck with 140k miles.

05+ toyota tacoma doublecab 4x4 no question.

you should be able to find an 05-2012 for about 15k if you search hard and negotiate well. I LOVED mine. Only sold it to get a diesel because i started towing heavier stuff.

I did tow approximately 6500lbs with it, using a trailer brake controller, and it did alright everywhere except the MPG field.

If toyota manufactured a tacoma sized truck with a small 6 cylinder diesel and slightly beefed up transmission/running gear, I would be first in line to buy one.

Hard to beat a Tacoma.Got a 2010 double cab l bought about two years ago.Great vehicle for what l use it for.Just my wife and when we go on trips. Two small dogs in the back seat with our gear in the bed with a cover.Sometimes a hitch hauler too.Tows a ski nautique easily. You did mention you wanted something like a Tahoe. So suggesting a smaller size truck user and l may not have helped you very much.
The only thing that really bothers me about small trucks is the gas mileage. About the same as larger trucks.

2 problems I have with Tacomas:

1. The quad cab is very long and complicated to park in NYC.
2. People are very dramatic about the pricing. I'm convinced the only way to buy a Tacoma is new.

Are you talking about a short bed or long? I have a short bed.lts not bad to maneuver in tight places.

A buddy of mine has his mothers 2013 double cab up for sale.100,000 miles and clean for $13,000.Thats a resonable price

I thought it was 220" but I just saw the double cab short bed is 208". That's not bad. My current car is 192" and I squeeze many parking spots. My problem in NYC is that a few inches was the difference between driving around for 30 minutes for a parking spot or not. I've pushed bumpers to get into spots haha
$13k is reasonable. All the cars are more expensive in the tri-state for no particular reason other then the crack they are smoking.

You don’t buy a Tacoma for it’s towing capacity or fuel economy. You buy it for its dependability to get you to work and back and to get you through trails when you need to. I’ve owned Toyota trucks for 30 years and they have never let me down. If you want to tow heavy loads, get a diesel Ford or Dodge. If you want a dependable truck, get a Tacoma.

Ive had 5 toyotas now, 3 tacomas and 2 4runners. Loved every one of them. The dependability cannot be beat. I believe they are truly a better engineered product made with higher quality materials. I can get in my newer gmc 2500hd and drive it for a day, then hop in my 98 tacoma with 385K on the clock and it drives smoother, has less rattles, and has a generally better fit and finish. thats why I said above that if toyota built a 4x4 diesel vehicle in the mid size truck category I would own one for sure.

This may not be true where you are, but where I'm at the 4x4 ones are the only ones worth having. 2wd tacomas and runners are not worth nearly as much on the used market as comparable 4x4 models.

I would think that you could easily find a 05+ 4x4 with reasonable miles for 15K or less.

FWIW I test drove a few of the "access cabs" before looking at a double cab. Go for the double cab, trust me on this. the usability is SO MUCH GREATER on the DC, something to definitely consider.

+1 on Toyota. They can take a beating and also don’t get stuck on the beach like all those nerds in full-size trucks

Yes,buy a double cab! Ext cabs IMHO are useless.Maybe worth looking further south or west outside of your area for one.Fly in and drive it home.
I have been slowly fixing mine up.l bought a set of oem wheels and tires off a 2018.$850 bucks. Also a set of strut take offs from the same year for $100. All off Craigslist.Changed out the sound system (aftermarket).
If you are interested just don't get in a hurry. The first price the salesman gave me, l totally laughed at him.Gave it right back with him with a low ball price.Almost three weeks back and forth, till the sales manager called me (known him for 20 years) with a couple days left in the month.Long story short l bought it for basically low retail.Knew l wasn't gonna get a super deal, but it has paid for itself by not letting me down.
Look on Tacoma World forum, always decent deals or contact Robbie, @Captain PegLeg on here.He is in the car biz and a straight up good dude

I've never had a Chevy leave me for dead, been driving them for 20 years. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid. Toyotas are ugly and always will be.

My last chevy went to 324k and I sold it. My current one has 235k with nothing but brakes and shocks replaced, running great.

I was starting to think there was a rule, Superjet Owner = Taco

The Tahoe is attractive to me because I was a mechanic years ago and I fixed a fleet of them for the fire department. So i'm very familiar with them. They were heavily abused, but replaced before the mileage was high so I can't comment on longevity.

Same conclusion i came to, so i bought new for less than a CPO. 2017 sr5 4x4 quad cab short bed for 31,800. Put 12k down and have reasonable payments. First time ive ever had a car payment but i have no regrets. I love my truck. :)

Commuting it into downtown LA was no problem for me, especially coming from a full sized 2500 Chevrolet. The taco has a great turning radius and the back up camera makes parallel parking a piece of cake!

There is a new 2017 Tacoma SR5 Access Cab with backup camera for $27k at my local Toyota. But I really don't like the access cab. So when I see people asking for $25k on their 2012 with 100k miles i'm like o_O

Maybe I shouldn't worry about length because if I need to drive to NYC then I can just swap cars with my mom who has the Hyundai Tucson .. 176" this puts a full-size truck on the table like silverado 1500 or avalanche. I'm finding that the mid-size trucks are more expensive then full-size.
