WNY riding

Hey guys

I'll be moving to western NY area this summer and I'm curious about riding skis there. Moving somewhere between Buffalo and the NY/PA border due south of Buffalo.

Here in Colorado it's kinda easy, we have a couple state parks/reservoirs and some rivers to ride in (the pic is stolen from Miles. It's our Colorado River ride on 5/12. I'm in the American flag shorts on the right) as long as you paid your registration. Boats don't have titles here. Just show your bill of sale and get registered. If you act like an idiot in the no wake zone at the reservoir you might get harrassed by the rangers. Things are kinda easy but we don't have much water so boats and skis really aren't a big scene here.

From what I gather, NYS requires a boater safety class. Can you just ride anywhere you want? Up rivers and canals and whatnot? Is their inspections at the launches going in and or coming out?

Denver Craigslist is healthy. I thought buffalo/Rochester Craigslist would give me some indication of quantity of stand up stuff out that way but they are both so dead as far as searches go.

I'm just looking for good, general info on how things are out there.

Hi Mike. NYS requires a PWC card, it's a 1 day class. We ride in the south end of the Small Boat harbor in Buffalo. Another really nice location is Sturgeon Point about 30 minutes south of the city. A bunch of us also head to Erie PA to Presque Isle State Park a few times a season. Sturgeon Point gives you the best of both worlds, smooth water next to the break wall, and waves outside. Here are a few pics of the ride spots.20170702_151758.jpg20170820_140738 (1).jpg20170820_140738 (1).jpg

Yes, not everyone's first choice. But it is the closest spot from my house. You can get into some big waves on windy days outside the break wall. There are a bunch of guys with stand up's between Buffalo and Erie. Plus you can go north to Ontario Canada. Bunch of guys up there also.

Hamburg beach as well is a great spot but you need to live in hamburg to get a launch permit. There are a ton of other spots to ride as well. We head to lake Ontario a few times a year as well as some rivers. As long as your registered ive only been stopped once in 10 yrs of riding.
