I am starting my new Q8 Sky build today. The engine is just a stock sxr 800 right now.
(I'm taking all pics with a go pro, so bear with me)

So far, the engine is out. Next I will remove the pump.

Tips and questions are appreciated!

Now sick an 1100 in that SXR and you will have a race boat and a free ride boat.

Are you going to bump the timing and comp on the 800?

Nah, I'm strictly freeride. I will be selling the hull for $900 obo.
And probably not, in relevance to the comp and timing.

Pump is out. Electrical box is next.

By the way, does anybody know where, and to what, the e-box mounts to in the Q8? There is nothing for it to mount to in the hull.

cool man glad you got it did you get what you told me about i bet that will be a fun ride what weight is that one

Thanks JJ, I'm not entirely sure on the weight. As far as I know, it's made out of carbon and fiberglass. I would guess somewhere around 70-80 lbs.

The ski weighs in at about 93 pounds with hood, bracket, and turf. A little more than I expected.

The pump bolts were too small for the Q8, so we had to buy 4 bigger bolts and drill out the pump holes to fit.
Here are some pics of my girlfriend and I drilling the pump. She hasn't shaved in awhile, so don't mind her belly.

On a side note, the 4 new bolts we had to buy, were the exact same size as the 8 motor mount mounting bolts that go into the hull. Quite convenient.

The sxr is pretty much bare at this point. Just a few small things left, like the battery box and hoses.
Right now, I'm at a stand still, because I might be getting a mag pump and different gas tank.

hey man any chance you can get a pic of the sxr and the q8 side by side and some different shots

No problem. These are the best I could do with a GoPro. The hull is actually way shorter than the sxr, but it's hard to tell with this camera's fisheye lens.

The pump was VERY difficult to fit into the hull because of the black seal (that sits around the front of the pump and sits against the hull). So I removed that and made my own silicone seal. (Eric's idea)

I will be putting 3 layers of turf behind the electrical box, rather than laying it directly against the hull. (the stock sxr e-box mounting plate will not fit into the Q8) 3 long bolts/nuts will hold the e-box to the hull.

I used super glue on a few edges on the decals, because they were slightly bubbling on curved surfaces (like the hood). However, I wouldn't recommend that unless it is only needed at the very edge of the graphic and is very small.

Handle pole holes were made. I was a little sketched out drilling these.
You can also see how I mounted the e-box in this picture.

Make sure the pole brackets are straight and true. If not it will never stay tight. I learned that the hard way.

This is absolutely correct. I made sure mine was straight and true during my build by shimming one of the bracket slightly. I have zero issue with my pole getting loose as it is always tight and exactly how I like it. Also placing a bushing on both sides of the base of the handle pole helps a lot as well.
