When in doubt, Throttle-out.
After riding her for 5 hours, Carnage Report:

I managed to smash her hood, Snap the carbon pole and rip most of the railing turf off... Overall, the ski performed great...

If I could change anything I did, it would be to not cut nearly as much off the back. It planes out fine and doesn't porpoise but it makes the ski react left-to-right from every tiny movement of your body... If I had better balance and maybe a six-pack this wouldn't be a problem...

The boots were nice, at least when they were loose on my feet. Don't use the ones with the buttons on the side though because I definitely snapped it off on the side of the tray within the first five minutes...

Overall, very happy with how she turned out.

P.S. I just wanted to throw a thank you to Bill Durey and the Iowa SAE team for helping me finish this ski. Couldn't have done it without them...

So what was the total chop on the back? I know you went extreme and I respect how you pulled it off, just curious how much became too much?

Sucks about your pole also, what's your plan? Fix the design you have or go with a traditional unit?

The total chop on the back is about 7 inches... I don't really know if it is too much yet, but after 1 or 2 more rides I will. I was just very different from what I was used to (which it should be). Also, my steering was all sorts of messed up and I couldn't get a solid feel of the ski. I am debating just throwing down for a new X-metal pole...

The pole can be salvaged, I just need to put through-bolts on the lower aluminum pole mounting pieces.
I snapped the cross-piece off and pulled the carbon tubes off the aluminum mounting pieces within the first 5 minutes of riding... So, no spring and through-bolts -- Check.

P.S. the x-metal waterbox with the 'rear only' exhaust outlet is LOUD... But it is a good loud, more or less a noticeable Bark from across the lake [[ Keep in mind the outlet is in the middle of the ski -- above the waterline 90% of the time riding ]]. Finding a tube that is 2.5'' I.D. and 3 feet long for this waterbox is impossible. I had to settle for a $91.00 Hydraulic tube/hose that can handle pressures that would suit a giant rock-crushing machine.

Here is a video of a couple test runs in Wisconsin with it... I would really like to take her to lake michigan and at least throw a barrel roll or two, but it might take a couple weeks.

Looks best in 1080P

BTW, I am trying out Rain-X on the camera case lens to avoid the water goblets that always stick to the F'ing screen when riding... We'll see if it works.

UPDATE:

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THE GAS TANK SHOWN IN THE LATEST PICTURES!

There is a reason that the pick-ups on the standard gas tanks are from the top of the tank. I had a fuel line failure and all 3 gallons of gasoline filled my hull right next to my live battery. My heart was racing while removing the battery.

On top of that, I found the downfall to the one-way Dump valves...
When you NEED to block them in order to prevent three or more gallons of gasoline from DUMPING into the lake, it is damn near impossible... Otherwise they do their job very well. I basically ran with no hood liner for the last three rides and had her filled up to the top of the carb with water and she emptied as soon as I hit the throttle.

Things to keep in mind if you do anything like this:
-Screw the handholds on the hood ( Totally Unnecessary )
-Reinforce the hood heavily (Especially the liner -- kevlar is your best friend)
-Spend the money on a properly made aftermarket handle pole
-Stick with the stock fuel cell and use cell-foam to stop the sloshing
DO NOT use a vertical Drag Fuel cell like I did

New A/M Pole on its way, new bracket being fab'd up, and X-Metal Steering is planned to be ordered up here in the next week...

This is a continuous improvement project haha...

And more! New pole from L.T.D. that is awesome. Literally only $350.00 for the bracket, backing plate, pole, and carbon chin pad!

I don't know yet because it has become a little too cold to ride, we had snowfall yesterday... I am probably going to install some hand-warmers tonight (no-joke).

Someone on the X had a contraption that used the open-looped cooling system of the engine and ran the exiting cooling lines to their handlebars. I think this is ingenious! The directed hot water onto the hands could probably allow me to ride for awhile longer, maybe even past surface-ice on the lake haha!

yeah if you have an aftermarket head with dual cooling it works great or you T it off the pisser. My buddy has his off the head and he ran a single clear 1/4 inch tube up his handle poll and put a T with one tube coming off each side dumping water on top of your hands.. it was the best thing ever!!!!

I may have to do that on my build this winter as well... maybe still have a T to a pisser instead of just straight off the head, and put a valve on the hose going to the pisser. This way if you dont want any water or a little water or A LOT OF WATER, you just adjust your valve to the pisser....

I want to use 1/4" Loc-Line with spray nozzles so it can be adjusted by hand on-the-go. You can move it any way you want. Completely away from your limbs, up your wet-suit arms, or anywhere else you want... It is really tight tolerances on the connections and requires special wrenches to disconnect and reconnect the pieces, which is good because then the line stays stiff when you want it too.

Check the flexible line out at Grainger.com here and the spray nozzles here

that could be sweet. Where is it going to come out from? under the chin pad??? Not that i reccomend this, but i have seen a guy drill holes in his handle bars and the water came out directly onto the grips.... think that could get a bit slippery... but yeah if you get that done, post some pics, would like to see how you did it... deffinently would like to find a way to keep the hands warm in mid october next year, lol

So I went with my Hot-hands idea and milled the X-metal handle bars and hooked up the cooling line from the top of the engine's head to the center of the bars...

The bars looks like a gun-drilled barrel and there are 12 holes per grip. The outlet holes are through the Rogue ODI grips and then the aluminum bars with 1/8" holes...

I haven't actually tested them because it is currently 12 degrees with a foot of snow on the ground here in Iowa, but I'll get back to you when I do....

I am working on the tray padding, and I finally got the handlepole pad figured out... Annnnd I finally broke down and picked up a legit pair of Wrestling shoes from Addidas. They are perfect and I cannot believe that I ever settled with DC skateboarding shoes. They are super light with lots of ankle support and they have a hard shell on the heel.

Finally dialing this ski in. It has taken way too long and lots of development work (a.k.a. bad ideas)...

Updates:

Re-turfed with full 26mm underpad and 1.2 inches of pad on tops. Added surfing 'sexwax' to the foothold turf for added grip. Now when only my toes are in the holds I can still have full control without worrying my foot is going to slip out... Might be bad however because when my foot is completely in the hold they are REALLY difficult to get out. Definitely am going to tape my ankles before doing anything too crazy.

Fins up!
