pistons have orange (???) color.
there is almost no carbon on them(pistons).
that helps a little?
thx for help

first hole- piston is completely clean(all orange color)
second one- has a little bit of carbon in the middle(square inch)

You sure that is not the color of the light itself? I recently took my motor apart and pistons did not even have carbon build up on them. Guess it depends on what oil you use.

I use new plugs to feel out how the motor is running. I can't really tell from the picture the overall condition of them. Looks pretty clean but wet, so I would say you are a little rich. However, I would go off the feel of the motor more than plugs. That will only tell you how the motor was running at that particular moment before the ski was shut off.

i use amsoil interceptor
the are orange(without light).
middle range is OK so is top end,
bottom end sucks, when I hit the throttle it hesitates, chokes and then fianlly go :(
plugs have black build up(faaaaar from brown)

ps thanks raiverrat

Okay, I also use amsoil so not the problem. I would check to see if that orange is rust. If it is, you probably have a bad head gasket. Did you look in the spark plug holes right after your ride?

Did the boat run right before you put the pipe on? Did you run the water lines correctly?

Sounds like you are rich on the low adjustment screw. When you punch it and it hesitates it may too rich on the mix........... so rich that it boggs, then as the rpms increase it clears out and leans out. That thick black soot on the plugs kind of confirms that. Put it on the trailer in the water and start the motor. Let it warm up...........how does it idle? If the idle is really choppy or it does not want to idle at all you know the low speed mix it out of wack. Count how many turns out you are on low speed screw and tinker with that until the idle is pretty smooth. Start feathering the throttle up to about 1/4-1/2 and see if you can get rid of the hesitation. If you are more that 1 turn out on the adjustment screw it may be benificial to go up a jet size. Likewise if you are less that 1/4 turn out it may be benificial to go down a jet size. I try and get the jets between 1/2 and 1 turn out on the mixture scew (at least that is what I do so I can more accuratly adjust in either direction).

Also be consistant in mixing the gas. 40-50:1 is a good mix.

My pistons looked the same way on my single carb 62t motor running amsoil, lots of heavy carbon and no real piston wash. You are prob rich on the main jet and or low on your popoff. The single carbs pull on the main jet a little sooner so it can really affect your bottom end. If you rev the motor with the flame arestors off you will see fuel getting dumped in from the bombsight like as you roll on the throttle. It feels like a slight bog when you are riding the ski and roll on the throttle. You could mistake it for hesitation and end up jetting the wrong way.

I forgot!
this pic was posted before about this topic. if you too rich the unburnt fuel will keep the piston clean and if your lean then you'll get build up on the entire piston.

its not rust.
ski was running just fine before I installed pipe.
It runs much better with a pipe, midrange have been improved, overall throttle response is better, only bottom end suffers.
Riverrat, I am going on the beach right now to follow your instructions:biggthumpup:
cookerq62 and SJjet thanks for your opinions:hail: .
will report later today
thanks guys
ps. I run 50:1

ok, have been playing with low speed adjustment all day.
to loose hesitation I had to go with 2 complete turns out.
ski started runnin much better:biggthumpup: .
With one turn out on low motor was boggin and didnt want to rev.
sparkplugs looked a little confusing.....one looked whitisch(???)
and the other brown and red, that was after 15 minutes of riding.
what do I do now???

I just know that I am going to run in to all small problems
and my ski wont be ready for saturday.
I will order new jets and rebuilt kit and will have to decide what to do
thanks guys for the input

Yup, go up in jet size. Call or email coffmans and see what they reccomend for your application. At least now you know where you are and where you need to go with the jets.
