Low end power

Looking for some help on how to get the most power from 61x cylinders with 62t cases. I am running a B-mod pipe with stock 38's. What is the best way to get more low end? I have a limited budget and looking for some advice.

Porting, bored nozzle, wet wolf pump cone, 13/17 prop are a few good thing.

When I bought the ski, it came with a J-prop, not sure of what this is, and I have put a wamiltons snub-cone on it. I weigh about 195 so how much difference will the prop make? As far as the porting, should I have 760 sleeves installed or just free ride porting on the stock 701 sleeves?

I'm running a Skat Swirl 12/17 on my ski that has a bpipe, ada head(185psi), and 38's and I am absolutely blown away on how much more snappy it is compared to some other ski's that have more mods and different props. I would highly recommend it.

Skat told me to go with the 12/17 for my motor and they said I could go with the 13/17, but that the 13/17 was for more of a modified motor.

Did you have any porting done? I seed a lot of people mentioning free-ride porting.
As far as the head, ADA, is there any brand better than another?
I appreciate the heads up on the 12/17 Skat.

Definitely go with a girdled head next. ADA's, Riva's, and Blowsions are all good. If you're buying new then I'd go with an ADA because they're a lot cheaper(about $330 for a head, girdle kit, and domes). I like the ADA because they are so simple and have a lot less orings which means a lot less places for the head to leak. Thats just my opinion.

Convert the 62T cases to a big single carb (48mm) and its more reliable and you have higher entering air velocity, Consider the fact though that with a ported right setup engine a single carb wont cut it for WOT runs (leans out the engine... not good) but if your not really into that (most arent) then I think its the way to go. Get a prop, pitch you want will depend on personal preference, alot of peopl use the 13/16 3mm cutback, Im 200 lbs so Im in your boat, I have a 14.5x18.5 currently but may switch for more bottom end. Ported cylinders will help that b-pipe recognize a lot of power. 180 psi head or so.

If you switch to single carb, you can sell the 38's and probably not spend too much converting a single.

Bottom line, if you can jet a carb (why converting to single is all that much better!) then get your cylinders ported by LPW, thats the best bang for the buck hands down.

I appreciate the advice. Looks like I need some porting by LPW.
Not to sound stupid but what are WOT runs?

No like winter
Wide Open Throttle, full tilt, open it up...etc whatever you call it, its hard to feed enough fuel mix to a ported cylinder with a single carb. but if your into freestyle you really shouldnt need to worry about it.

Porting helps. It is winter time so you can port the cases yourself. Shops charge $450 for this mod and it is a waste if you pay someone to do it, it is not difficult just time consuming. Some better reed valves may gain you some throttle response as will adding compression to the motor. 175-185lbs is a good pump gas range (93 octane). You can have your flywheel lightened by protec or LPW for around $50. The b-pipe is a big plus. The best power add I have found was when I went from dual 44mm carbs to dual 48mm Riva Powerbombs. I aslo tried dual 48mm Full Specs and those were nice as well. Some say single carbs but I personally prefer duals. Measue the exhaust manifold/headpipe port. Optimal size is 46.5mm but I would have that bored out to 48mm if running 48mm carbs.

I did a 701 last season and found that if you Port the case yourself (maybe $40), have a shop FS port the cylinders (about $450 w/ fresh hone job), add compression ($100-$350), a prop and a some good carbs (look at shelling out about $300 for a single carb or $600-800 for duals) you the ski will make enough power to do most of the tricks out there. I found the carbs add the most snap/throttle response which is, to me, more valuable than pure power.

Before you open your wallet do a search or tunning b-pipes and water routing. You might be able to get more out of what you have. Also a skat swirl will do you a solid.

as you can see, everyone has a different setup pretty much, and therefore different opinions on almost everything (except porting being a given), theres a lot of research involved but you have all winter if you live in a northern state

RiverRat, you have any good threads for porting the cases (62T)? Would it be worth it to port the cases only if I have no money to do the cylinders?
