Other Heel stoppers behind the footholds

They are meant for being used when doing combos on flatwater. After a couple tricks in a row sometimes your feet will slide out of the holds so this helps you stay in place. Never seen them on a surf set-up tho and hope I never do :)

I call them ankle breakers. There's plenty of times I want out of the footholds fast.

I saw a bunch of flatwater skis with the heel stoppers in the back.

I know some people really like to be locked in...

I didn't get a chance to ask anyone there, but are they really necessary?

Do they really help out the average rider or are they really meant for flatwater competition only?

They really help more when your doing trick combos... Sometimes after the first barrel roll or backflip, you need to kick back in before the next trick without the heel stops... The heel stops keep you in tight so you can immediately transition into the next trick.... Say.... a barrel roll, into a 180, into a backflip

Might even help someone from breaking their Jaw!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some only run one, just to keep one foot in when doing one foot variations. It helps keep the rider with the ski. I'm not too interested, as I don't plan on competing and I like my ankles the way they are. But I imagine when you get to that am, or pro level with the confidence to use them it's a pretty cool tool.

They are not hard on the ankles. I went to mine because I was coming out in the air with my 1100.......no matter how tight I made them, the flips were pulling me out. I've had zero issues with ankle/heel stuff, but have been stuck once or twice lol. Wouldn't want to do it on anything other than flatwater :)
