Super Jet 2012 SJ: Bob adjustable install

So long time listener, first time foothold/glass/turf/oh:):):):)ihopeitturnsoutgood caller. Bought my ski last summer as i thought it was going to be my last chance on a new SJ. Immediately the turf/tray sucked, hard and slippery. So this winter (suppose its closer to spring now) i've decided to tear into her. I was going to go the normal foothold route but after posting up here and talking to another member i decided to do it once and be done for good. Like i said ive never done holds before, much less even turf b/c my old ski's was fine BUT i will have help from another member thats done these before. So i thought i'd start a build thread b/c i'm trying to get everything done i can do, so as to not take up more of his time. Heres the start of it, should be cutting in the next week or two.
2 questions: whats a good way to get all this glue off (still fresh from the factory) and the rail caps? Them things are on good.

Dont worry about the glue. Rip the rail caps off and all the old turf and start cutting. Youll need to sand the rail caps down to the bare smc once you get it all cut and fitted. Fiberglass and gelcoat dont mix.

I'm sure you've seen it, but in case you haven't you should watch the installation video the BOB guys put out on this. It's pretty through on the install.

And yeah, as Burton said, just yank those caps. You'll cut all that BS off, sand the gel coat off (I highly recommend doing that outside unless you want everything inside your shop/garage/bathroom to be covered in black (in your case) dust.
Anyhow, once you have it all glassed in, you'll turf where the caps were.

The JOLO cracks me up everytime haha. Ya ive watched the video a time or two now. How about getting all the glue off the bottom of the tray part, figure i'll need to do that... I've got everything off except the caps right now, gonna rip them off when i get home. Figured we'd tape everything up pretty good so as to not screw up my paint to bad, yall see that being possible at all? Was hoping to be able to turf over any of the sanding/glassing i'm gonna be doing. Those install videos are all done on skis that are stripped and gonna BE painted, not the other way around.
I'm in plano and usually have my ski down at our lakehouse (west tx kinda), but i've been out to lewisville on it once. Usually if i go around here its to wakeboard though. Think i may have met a few of the guys out at the beach there at lewisville before.

Also just got some brapp straps to throw in during all this..... and still need to install my new steering cable, ahhh procrastination.

Acetone will get the turf glue off. I think you should be able to get away with what you're talking about i.e. turfing your glassed areas. I'm kinda on hoping for the same thing on my build, but i'm pretty sure I won't be that lucky.

Theres a group of guys that ride at Grapevine, and another group that I ride with at Lewisville. We mostly chase boats and watch Daniel Martin do flippy doos.

Lake is called Oak creek, south of sweetwater 30 mins. Family's had a place out there since the 70s, nothin to run home about but is plenty fun. My dad built a new dock a few years ago and has one of those jet docks that i get to pull up on, super nice. With my old sxr i used to open the drain plug and drain it after each ride, anyone put those in a SJ, would love to be able to drain it all the way? Bilges just dont get it all...

Good deal bout the turfing over any roughed up paint, im gonna have to be careful taping things off... I've got acetone handy and gonna use some pliers and heat for the caps. Also my plans halfway changed mid supplies gathering, heres my list from uscomposites: quart of epoxy 3:1 resin/harder, 3lb 2-part foam, 3 yds of 3" cloth tape, 3 yds of 12" biaxial tape and some cabosil. Will that be enough?
Other supplies: 2 sheets of turf and a 25mm pad and of course the bob kit

Love my bob holds! (Owns the superjet in the video) I lived in Abilene from 2008-2010. Always wondered if the jet ski world was worth anything in Texas.

Even on my small lake theres at least one other standup as of last year.
Getting the tray mostly ready, those rail caps are on GOOD.... Going to open her up and get after it this weekend.tray.jpg

I think I have seen you at Lewisville Lake one time. There was a 12' Superjet there once.

I installed Blaster1 drain plugs in my superjet, they do the trick just fine on draining out water from under the tray. There are a few guys in the Tarrant County crew that have done BOB footholds and they look sweet. We will start riding out at Grapevine on the 17th so hurry up and finish the install

Lewisville is a blast to ride. I also ride at grapevine, eagle mountain, benbrook, and a couple other places. Grapevine is ok but there is not many boats to chase. I have installed bob's in my ski over the winter but they were far from your standard install.

Well shes completely opened up. Gonna have to cut up the holds a bit though, things just weren't fitting good. Heres a midday picture, both sides are open now defoamed and everything ground down quite a bit. I bet i have a good layer of black dust in my lungs, hopefully my body can expel it haha. Cut the holds tomr then epoxy to the side, then foam and form.

i just got done doin bobs in my 2012... doin a repaint, -4 pole, pretty much everything but a build thread.. haha
