its spring and I have a new ski. I am debating on what oil I am going to run and at what mixture. my compression is 150 and I have a b-pipe. I don't want to spend a fortune on oil either and I would like to get it locally. I think I can get yamalube at a discount. quicksilver has about 4 different 2 stroke oils at bass pro and walmart, penzoil has several too. citigo is the cheapest at 15 bucks a gallon. the others range up to about 26 bucks.

This is one topic that has been covered in tons of threads so do a quick search and start reading:biggrin:.

Personally I would stay away from yamaglue and probably run Quicksilver if you can get a good price on it. Check local marinas and boat stores(mercury outboard dealers) that sell it from a drum and you can usually find some pretty good prices on Quicksilver.

I run amsoil interceptor and never had a problem. My only complaint is that its caramel color and I sometimes forget if I added oil or not because it doesnt turn blue or green like some oils. However, its synthetic so thats probably why. I use to get it at 31 a gallon. Now a lil bit less.

I run Penzoil semi-synth, never had a problem, and its BLUE! And a decent price.

I've run Klotz before, and its amazing stuff, but that was in go-kart engines that needed rebuilding every 3rd race. If your running a general rec setup w/ no porting, I'm fine with running semi-synth. Stock, even more so. The one thing I wont do is buy walmart oil. Number one, walmart treats their employees like crap, but then also you get what you pay for.

pennzoil synthetic marine. Never had a problem with any of my engines. they all looked beautiful when pulled apart with little to no abnormal wear. Very economical price....i pick up 2.5 gallons for 70 bucks

is the expensive oil really worth the price? by the time you figure $x more expensive for the oil times x number of gallons is it really worth it even in the monster motors?

our kart motors would grenade in a very very short period on anything other then high-end klotz or equivalent oils. If I ever spend 5 grand or more on a brand new lamey stroker, you can bet I'll be using good oil in it.

Damn:bigeyes: You call that economical? I get Quicksilver for about $11 a gallon at West Marine because I work there over the summers.

Right now I'm running Klotz Castor Benol because a buddy of mine hooked me up for $15 a gallon. I love the smell and all and it's great oil, but if I have to pay more than $20 a gallon for oil then I'll just go back to quicksilver which I know is good oil.

at walmart last week they had the pennzoil synthetic marine in the 3 gallon thing for $35. I was so shocked. I am planning on going over there and picking some up.

Ditto for me. I run the Pennzoil synth blend in both skis for several seasons now. It's cheap and burns very clean. The 2.5 gallon jugs are less than 30 bucks at Wallyworld.

I ran a couple gallons of pennzoil and was unimpressed
I will stick with Quicksilver
Maybe those hi dollar oils are critical for stroked hi comp motors, but with non race skis I do not see the point.

The high dollar oils are critical if you have power valves or why take a chance if you have a real expensive motor .

I use the west marine full synthetic and bought it buy the case (6 gallons) for $62 = $10.30 a gallon and it's synthetic .
