OK...... been wanting tubbies for a while now, but was afraid they would not stay on...

I'M NOT AFRAID ANYMORE!!!!

I think between talking to "the master" (Doc Wok) and some others (Neil, Robert) who have installed them I feel a lot better about the whole process... I got some great tips too...

Here goes:
  1. grind about 1-2mm of the foam on the inside of the Tubbie and on the edges of the tubbie, grind off about 4-5mm.
  2. rough up the inner lip of the Tubbie w/ 36 grit sandpaper or a grinder (if you feel confident using one)
  3. lay Tubbie flat on sheet of fiberglass matte, trace w/ sharpie and cut offset to the center 3-4mm (2 per side)
  4. repeat steps 1-3 w/ other Tubbie
  5. make mark to position rear of Tubbie 36.5" up to 38" from rear and 3.5" up from bottom on the side of hull
  6. make mark to position front of Tubbie .5" from bottom of hull
  7. trace out Tubbie on side of ski w/ sharpie
  8. grind w/ high speed angle grinder using 36 grit paper everything inside the Tubbie outline traced on the hull. I usually go about 20mm over for flairing in the Tubbie later
  9. re-trace Tubbie back onto side of hull as said in 5, 6
  10. predrill holes w/ 9/64" drill bit and screw Tubbie to hull and ensure it is where you want it / remove Tubbie
  11. mix up approx. 2 pints of you favorite two part epoxy and add cab-o-sil to thicken it up good... don't use too much or the matte wont soak up good
  12. pour epoxy into tubbie spread w/ paintbrush, lay 1 layer of matte, pour more epoxy, lay 2nd layer of matte... make sure it's all nice and wet
  13. make sure hull is layed on it's side so epoxy doesn't all drain out of sides when you screw it in
  14. screw Tubbie to side of hull and flair in the edges of the Tubbie w/ the epoxy/cab-o-sil mix.
  15. let dry and repeat steps 5-14 for other side
I will continue tomorrow w/ the filling and painting process:

the Tubbie II's have more of a lip than the 1's... there is no concave lip on the 1's, just rounds off

from Blowsion site:
After almost 10 months of design changes and testing our Blowsion technicians have pulled it off again. Are you more agressive than the average rider? Looking for even more agressive response and handling feedback than our wildly popular Standard model parabolic side sponsons provide? Blowsion "Tubbies" are the answer. IJSBA Race Legal these puppies are now being used by the best of the best -- Victor Sheldon (Polaris Octane), Joe Kenney, Clay Cullen, Jeff Jacobs, Scott Watkins, Josh Lustic, Rick Roy, Mark Tearle, Sean Workman and many more Pros to be announced shortly. All of our test riders have been having incredible success with easily one of the most exciting composite products we have ever designed and produced. Don't sell that SXI Pro, Yamaha SJ or Octane to buy an SXR to be competitive in racing or against your buddies on the waves or lake. The Tubbies are the equalizer and give you a handling improvement that makes the stock SXR handling advantage shrink to near nothing. This is not an overstatement. NOTE: for racers in Limited class and Superstock, we HIGHLY recommend Blowsion Hull extensions to be used in conjunction with the Tubbie 2 Race model. To clarify the difference between the two models, what we have done is recessed a concave shape into the bottom leading edge of the Tubbie II sponson to create a harder / sharper edge for turning and tracking. This Race Model Tubbie Two (Part #AWCO213) grips better in turning and is more stable in straight line high speed riding. The Rec/Freeride model (Part #AWCO212) are very stable, but have some nose wandering at mid throttle due to the curved chine riding back and forth on the bow wave. This is very beneficial in freeriding as the ski is able to be more forgiving and reacts better to a variety of directions and water flow angles. The Race Model Tubbie Twos are more aggressive, but less forgiving riding over the tops of waves diagonally. If you are a rider/customer that has the Rec/Freeride model (#AWC0212), and you wants to try racing, the Freeride model can be mounted 4-5 Millimeters up from the bottom of the hull. This will create the same effect of the Race Model Tubbie Two. Patent Pending # 60/509.114.

This made me think the 212s are the choice for freeriding.

Great choice slut, I can't stand riding a ski in the surf without tubbies now. The Kenney plate (or homemade version) compliments the tubbies greatly, you can rip waves apart with the combination.
