Kawasaki 650 X2 Pipe Comparisons

Ok guys, I have a Coffman Exhaust, and a Factory Pipe all for a Kawasaki 650 SX/X2. So I decided to measure them all up and see what sizes they were. I was truely shocked at how small some of the diameters are! Especially where the head pipe meets the exhaust manifold, the head pipe meets the chamber, and the stinger diameters. Since the Factory Pipe is huge where it meets the chamber, there wasn't a problem there. Also the stock stinger diameter has the other two whipped! I believe it is because it is made from stainless where the others are aluminum. So it doesn't have to be as meaty to be as strong. Also this is a bigger size stinger. My 91 650 SX stock pipe stinger was a lot smaller than this 95 X2 stinger.

Note I was using a tape meadure and using my best judgement when the diameters were between 1/16" sizes. Also many of the diameters were not perfectly round as I took multiple measurements across the diameters in different places.

Finally for the FPP chamber ID, I just calculated the OD from the circumference. Then I found the pipe wall thickness from measuring the stinger ID and OD. I calculated the chamber wall thickness from the stinger measurements. Finally I found the chamber ID from those measurements. Needless to say, it is still a lot bigger than stock! The Coffman is big but it loses a lot of size due to the fact it is a thick walled cast aluminum piece. Next I need to measure volumes and chamber lengths.

Note measyrements start at the head pipe and follow the flow of exhaust gas through the pipe. There are two measurements for head pipe to chamber. The first one of the head pipe size at this location. The second one is the chamber size at this location.

I know someone out there has pics of a west coast compared to a stocker, FPP, Coffman, Mariner, R&D, PJS, ect... Lets fill this thread up with pics and measurements of the various pipes available for our skis!

by far the factory head pipe and the blaster chamber is all one needs...I ran a coffman with great results on my big pin 750 x2 ...but the factory is nice that you can control the water...plus it pulled out some more bottom end...:brap:

fwiw, team scream/x-metal actually decreases the diameter of the output of the b pipe chambers for better bottom end performance.... or so ive been told.

Sorry no pipes for sale from me

I did recently pick up a complete Coffman 750 SS Xi exhuast. It has the 4 bolt head pipe. I also got a Coffman 4 bolt top manifold. The diameter of this head pipe and manifold are bigger than the stock 650 and Coffman 3 bolt 650 head pipe. I am going to resell the 750 complete pipe on ebay to get my money back. So far the head pipe and manifold look like they will work on my 650 Coffman pipe.

The stainless steel Coffman pipe was the original pipe, the cast aluminum ones came later on.

I also have a Kerker tail cone for a stock 650 exhaust I need ot compare the length to a stock tail cone.

Post up pictures of your pipes!! Place it next to a stocker for comparisson.

Bump for a good thread! I was just thinking of doing this myself. I will add data soon.

Ajmps.. how would one calculate the pipe volume? That's no easy task but if you could that would be interesting too.

so if I'm running a blaster chamber it would be better to run a factor pipe head pipe versus a westcoast head pipe?
