Hole in the square

So a couple weekends ago my square got a hole in it.

To make a long story short, we had beached to try to work on my round nose. The tide was on the rise and the white water came in and made the square tumble in the sand right onto a 4x4 piece of wood sticking up out of the sand at an angle. Freakin sucks b/c I didn't want to repair the square, just wanted to put my time and money into the round.

Any body got some suggestions on the best way to make it night and smooth on the out side? On the inside I think I'm gonna go ahead and grind the ribs and re enforce both sides.

I would drill a small hole at the ends of all the cracks to stop them from running. V out the crack surface on both sides and repair the inside with epoxy resin and fiberglass cloth. On the outside use epoxy resin and some kind of fairing filler like West 410 or something similar. Sand it starting with 180 and finishing up with 400 to 600. It should be smooth if you sand carefully, then you can either repaint or just slap a good sticker on it and forget it..

that sucks man....

I f'n hate it when you end up having to repair the backup before the main project....

backup ski's are supposed to require NO MAINTENANCE!

Oh if it were only true. The more I'm thinking about it, I don't think its worth the effort to re enforce the ski. I'm just gonna repair the hole.

So I have a little bit of silica (I think that is how you spell it) left. Will this work for the out side, or will it make it too hard to sand compared to West 410?

Thanks, but no thanks. I have like 2-3 other square available to me, all for free, but mine is the cleanest out of the bunch. I already put the time into this hull to convert it to use a round nose pole, so I wanna stick with this one.

i shoulda paid attention to that damn 4x4.

Dude, I'm telling you, don't worry about it. In my opinion it was no one's fault.

But I repaired it from the inside. Then I used some epoxy with fairing compound (West 410) on the out side. It sure did sand so much easier than epoxy with filler like I have sanded before. I'll take pictures tomorrow. I used 180 grit, then 400 and it is nice and smooth.

I have friend that does vinyl. I think I'm gonna take him my ski and tell him to just do somthing cool and give him free reign on the design. That way the hole is covered up.
