Because I don't want this:

http://x-h2o.com/showthread.php?t=27911

to happen to my hand, I'm going to request that everybody make sure they have a tow loop on the front of their ski. This is to make it super quick and easy to attach a tow rope with a carabiner. Just a simple little hunk of rope is fine. Doesn't have to be a permanent attachment, just for the surf ride.

I know there's a bunch of threads about surf ride safety, I'll see if I can find and insert those links, too.

If anyone else has thoughts on this, please feel free to add them.

Maybe Penguin can offer some parking on the beach tips for the newbies that are planning to come.

See you all soon!

http://x-h2o.com/showthread.php?t=15421 Crab's thread for the northwest surf. Maybe more than we need unless somebody already has flags or just wants to make some?

http://x-h2o.com/showthread.php?t=13488 A lot of these are jokes, but some are not bad ideas. I like the designated watcher and arm straight up ideas. I know we usually have someone watching, but it's usually a more relaxed arrangement and guys have ended up quite a ways down the beach several times. I also like the signal right or left idea, we have had a few close calls, so maybe we can reduce that with some simple, fairly intuitive hand signals. It would be the responsibility of each rider to signal which way they're going and anybody that is behind them to be WATCHING for a hand signal (Bob). If you're riding nearly alone, no worries, but when it's a bit crowded, start signaling.

Dirty birdy, where's those links to all the beach info you've posted before? I know we have newbies coming, they won't be able to find the old links.

That's nasty, sorry to see anyone get injured that badly, the description of how it happened illustrates just how fast simple things can turn ugly.

In shop safety meetings over the years, I always remind the guys that your skin is NOT a protective covering . . . . . . all it really does is keep your blood from running out onto the floor !

Go up against anything sharp, rough or ragged and your body will lose everytime . . . .

Yep, I've sewed together enough animals (and a couple people) to know that it just takes seconds to mess up your day. Tow loops are as easy and cheap as a hunk of rope.

Someone really should make some flags, they can lay on the beach but its the only good way to get the riders attention if something really bad happens.

Yeah, I think so too, but I'm not willing to make them, so I can't exactly make somebody else make them. We don't get anywhere near the surf you NW boys do, so it's less of an issue. If we get anything over 4 feet we're ecstatic. We tend to have quite a few people watching, also, lots of significant others on the beach.

I'd love to see someone come up with some flags, but I don't see anybody steppin' up, yet. Who knows what can happen between now and March?

I can pack mine easily, but someone would need some poles to mount them on. I use 1.25 inch PVC pipe. Also, you should really run this by Nick and/or the beach patrol before implementing them.

This is for the Lonestar Freeride, why do we need to run it by Nick and the beach patrol? Are you just surfing via "New Posts"?

I can get some flags together by March, no biggie

Stacy, that would be awesome! I think it would add a safety factor to our rides. I think crab's thread has the sizes they used, so something similar would be fantastic.

The more safety we add, the more likely we are to be accepted by local water cops and residents. We don't yet need any permits to organize a ride like this (except beach parking permits for your vehicles) and it would be nice to keep it that way. I think that the more we show that someone has some "control" over the group, that there's some organization, and that someone is thinking about overall safety of the group, the less likely the local law is to step in and take a hand in controlling us.

OOps, my bad. Get to sewing Wavegoddess. I just got some rip stop nylon at the fabric store and my Dads wife sewed them up for me in a half hour. Basically a big full length pocket that slips over the pole, and a grommit at the bottom wired to the pole.

Heh, heh, figured.

Thanks for the suggestions. We'll get something figured out. Thanks for posting the original thread for us to piggyback. It's stuff like this that makes this web site sooo worthwhile.

Well I ordered a tow loop for my ski, I had to meet a minimum on my hotproducts order and just grabbed one. So I am now up to par on the saftey side. Now if we can keep me from doing something dumb we should be good.:haha:

I run loops on all my skis. Mainly because I use them to crank em up on the ski dolly when coming in.

CDUBB are you going to Daytona?? or at least the March lonestar ride??

BTW I went out and rode again my people.. it was nice. I ran the helmet cam and got about 30 mins of video of the front of my ski and water.
I think I need to reposition the camera up to actually get some good footage.
