My X2 Build

I've been working on an X2 hull for the past few weeks on the couple weekends I've been home. I started off with a totally water-logged hull and many of you probably saw the defoaming pictures. It was a PITA. But should be well worth it! Anyway, here are a few pics of some of the work done a couple nights ago by X2 Rags and myself. Main goal was just to get in reinforced, and get all new through hull cooling lines installed. I don't plan on running a seat, so the whole fire extinguisher area and little cargo compartment are out. Since I removed a lot of the support by taking this out, I've reinforced the insides of the seat cavity well. I'll also be using 4lb foam to help give it support. Any input appreciated!

Crab

Looking good, I worked on the Crabster all weekend getting it ready for the ocean on the 23rd, clonies are on the hull, steering throw improved, ride plate cut back to the first rib, relocated primer just behind the steering stem, outerwear fabric glued to the bottom of the sxr flame arrestor to cover the 6 holes.

Dude, your not going to run a seat!? What are you going to land on if you eat it? I lost my seat after a bad wipeout in daytona and still have a real nice bruise on my hip from landing on the under seat area.
There will be a seat, of sorts. haha. I figure I'll lay one, maybe two layers of some 25mil padding, topped by either some gator grip, or probably turf. So it's not going to be straight glass or anything. :Banane25: Honestly I just didn't have a seat, and don't want to drop the cash to get one and have it recovered, etc.. Then have to strap it down and all that mess. Plus I've just been thinking it would be slick to have a small, lowered, turfed platform instead of the seat. I mean who REALLY uses that thing anyway?!

Finally, a little progress

I've been busting my butt on this thing when I've been in town every few weekends trying to get it ready for Pensecola. At the moment, things are looking up. Way up. Got it completely re-foamed and all glassed back in. Nice and strong. Also glassed in the seat area smooth like I wanted, and glassed in some beefy footstrap studs. No more screws in the foot tray for me. Tubbies are on, and looking as good as I'm going to make them look. And also got the fuel filler filled in VERY nicely. I was really pleased at my first attempt with glassing, ever. I learned quite a bit, so I think the next one will look just a LITTLE bit better. Just a little. haha. Here it is, let me know what you guys think. Oh yeah, I gave up the search for the AM steering setup. Ended up buying the brand spanking new UMI. Bling. Bling.:Banane19:

Dont forget to seal the firewall to the bottom deck with 5200. I ripped into one of my other (WATER SOAKED) hulls on Friday and it was leaking badly in the same area as my other hull. Put a bead of 5200 around the entire firewall to bottom deck area and seal all those foam injection holes well!! You dont want to have to redo this! I removed over 36LBS OF WET FOAM!!!! And that was just on garbage bag os 2 that I weighed!

AND DEFOAMING AN X2 ********ING BLOWS ASS!

I made sure and sealed absolutely every hole, front and back. After seeing your thread Shawn, I made sure and sealed all the spots I might have missed. This hull should be sealed VERY well. I know it's WAY better than it ever was stock. There is no telling how many pounds we pulled out of this thing. Every single inch, top to bottom, was soaked. It ALL had to come out. Don't know how many more times I want to do that. Maybe one more. Maybe.

Looks good. Only thing I would change is the rear of where your seat would be. Why not slant it on an angle all the way to the back of the hull? Fill in the areas on both sides that are all speckled on Paint Brush. Then slant the back down. Will make getting back on easier.

Also smooth out the transition where the deck pad above the seat goes. A lok of corners to bust yourself on.

Also since you are doing a bunch of glass work why not a front hull mod?

I think you did a great job of reinforcing the engine compartment. I always wondered about grinding down the ribs. I always planned on doing the top ones and cutting the glass around the bottom ribs. Your reinforcing job looks clean though!

I will post up a pic of the through hull cable things I talked about a long time ago during the defoaming.

Any hood or steering trim mods?

Finally where and how much did the new UMI cost you? I need to bite the bullet and get me one. I would rather pay top dollar for new then junk on eBay that goes for almost new. WTF is up with people bidding stuff to the moon?

PS Shawn, I think the 24-7 hull will be the exact same way. Just two layers of 25mm padding and turf.

And some guy on PWCT was looking for an aluminum wheel. Search my username. I told him to hit yuou up. I didn't think you sold yours on eBay.

how many do you think we added??:banghead:
No where near as many as we removed.. And I doubt we added all that much compared to stock. Obviously SOME, but the addition of tubbies, and the engine, duals, etc.. I highly doubt anyone is going to be able to notice a difference between this one and any other stocker.
