Wide open footholds & strap in a 750SX *Done!*

Well, I have had this ski for probably 7-8 years, when I bought it however the hull was stock, with the way way way ugly purple/pink/yellow graphics and the purple bumpers and matting. The motor was hopped up just a little with a shaved head and porting. But they had swapped the stock exaust & stuff back on. I added a PJS dry pipe (loud S.O.B.), Ocean Pro Flame arrestor, oil injection block off plate, UMI intake grate, Ocean Pro ride plate, Beach House sponsons (damn good mod!), a Solas Concord prop, and a few other odds and ends. It stayed that way for a while, until at the end of last season I added a superjet handpole shortened "3 inches from the stock Kawi length. And for the last week, accbr (another guy on this site) and myself cut, hacked, grinded, glassed, and glued until we came up with an awesome foothold setup. It started out as a set of WaterDawg Kustomz REV footholds, but we cut the back half of them off, put them in the middleish of the ski, then hand made the rear portions allowing the tail to be opened up quite a bit, allowing tons of room. In the process I added a Dakine footstrap for my front foot. Attached are pics of the process. These first pic is how it looked before we cut into it with the ugly purple tubes wasting all that space, then the next two are after we went nuts with a sawzall, a grinder, and a dremmel.

Here we added some foam in order to give us something to work with in the now empty tail:

Here is what I have rigged up to mount the Dakine foot strap. I bought some ace hardware furniture fittings that are basically threaded tube with a 1" round flange on the end that is a perfect starting point to epoxy to the hull. Then I laid a few layers of glass over top of it to help keep them secure.

Ahhh, finally got the turf on! Not sure if I just want to paint the inside of the footwells black in order to preserve that extra 1/4" of room or if I should turf that too. But with my size 11's I need all the room I can get. Maybe I will start on that tomorrow.

So how does this look for setting out on a mission to provide tons of room in the tray?

The tray was 20 inches wide at the back. I think it turned out pretty good. My hands and arms still itch from the glass and foam. I'd like to beat the crap out of the Kawi engineer that decided to put those purple tubes back there.

I just have to do this to mine now. I stood in Nick's tray when I was in Daytona, and liked the way it worked.

Thanks guys, accbr and I are gonna try it out this Friday. He's got some motor work he needs to try out in his SJ so it will be a good shake down day. I still have to turf the rails (replacing the purple bumpers) today but should be done after that. Whew.....finally. That sucker took a solid week of both accbr and me every day after work. It looks worth it though, and hopefully it was worth all of his sweat as a prototype for his :beerchug:

Good thing you didn't go full length like I did. I slammed right into the exhaust pipe running down the right side and ruined my plans...lol. I've since fiberglassed over that section and gone back to normal.

We kinda wondered where the exhaust pipe was, but we didn't go past the part where the purple tubes ended.

Finally done! Here it is with it turfed all the way around instead of those god awful purple bumpers. For now I went with paint inside the footwells instead of turf as I want to wait and see how my size 11's fit in there on the water before I snug it up any. :thewave:
