Custom/Hybrid My new ski hauler

I know this is the ski buildup section, but didn't know where else to put a thread about my new trailer.

Picked up this trailer last night. $540. Great condition. Only about about 10 square inches of rust on the whole trailer.

I am planning on being able to haul 3 stand ups in the back, decking the front to have a platform to change in and out of my wetsuit on, and creating a walking platform to walk between the two outer ski when the third ski is not in the center.

The deck on the front will also serve as a area to haul a bunch of camping gear on.

After all that is done, I am planning on adding a set of air bags to my 2006 Tacoma to handle the excess weight.

Trailer is a 1997 zieman double sit down trailer.

Here are the pics from the craigslist ad. I'll add updated pictures when I get home from my New Year's vacation.

got my dad and his neighbor interested in my trailer project... they hauled out the plasma cutter and cut off the existing rung supports. My dad said he'll grind off whats left over tomorrow... I wish I had a spare hull right now for mocking things up.

you really think your gonna need helper bags for the extra weight?

they're not needed. i used my 05, 4cyl taco to tow a double axle uhaul trailer to AZ and back, towed a 20 foot ski sanger to the lake and have had three sjs on my trailer and full bed of campin supplies to pismo, not to mention my old 2000lbs campin trailer with my sj in the bed......

but....if you cant tell by his sj build, Chris likes to have his stuff set up to OCD anal retentive standards :pokey:

unlike some of us redneck hacks:icon16:

No I don't think it is necessary. That would be way down the line, when I have the extra $cash. They only cost $180 and are easy to install.

I was thinking about it, but I don't think I need it... I have access to a large flatbed hauler if I need it.

I'm not saying my truck can't handle the weight, I just don't like the back riding on the over loads. Plus if you have the back all loaded down and travel at night, you get people flashing their brights at you ever 2 miles b/c they think you have your brights on. Freaking annoying.

his stuff is so clean because it is always taken apart in his garage and not in the water :stups:

STFU!:chairshot::chairshot:

Have gotten some work done... well my dad has gotten a lot of work done. haha...

Got all the front supports tack welded into place. My neighbor has a line feed welder that my dad and my neighbor used to tack in the supports, but they said they want someone else to do the true welding b/c theirs will look like crap.

My dad got a little ahead of himself and welded the bunk tabs in the wrong spots, so they need to be cut off and and re welded...

I ordered a new spare tire, order the bow "C" looking thingys, and a couple combination bow locks.

Bought the wood and have cut it to shape for the front deck also.

Trailer looks better in person and it is going to be awesome when done. Thanks for your old trailer Chris. Took it apart and started to sandblast all of the rust off. Not bad considering it has been in salt water and is 15 years old. I hope to prime it and roll the line-x stuff on it next weekend.

Got a ton done yesterday... all up right front ski holder pole thingy's are welded. Just need to paint them. Got the front deck carpeted... Did a lot of grinding on the bad rusty spots and spray a bunch of rust destroyer over those spots. The worst was on the inside of the utility box. Only have a little bit of welding of the front supports that the poles will be mounted to and put some new wiring on the trailer and its done.

My dad is the poop. He has it almost completly done... we just need to slap on the liscense plate, paint the inside of the storage box, bolt on the spare tire, and buy two more bolts for the passenger side upright ski support.
