I bought a pair of Asics Split Second VI shoes at Sports Authority for about 60 bucks and they're working well.

Also buy a pair of neoprene sock to wear inside and go one size larger on the shoes.

Hey Dan,
Since your in Jersey and probably ride in cold water, look into getting some Neoprene Gill Boots. I use them for sailboat racing in 420's, so traction and warmth definitely counts (especially early spring with 45 degree water temps and common capsizing!!). They provide good traction and show no signs of wear except for a little color fade, and are a few (almost 4 years) old. Nice and warm too, but not uncomfortable in the summer as well. Warmer then shoes.

I think I paid 60 bucks for em, but worth the cash.

Most any shoes will give you better grip. We got some sweet boat shoes at work that have drainage holes in the bottom, Im gonna get a pair of those for when it gets really warm. They're lightweight and have good padding.

maybe i should be looking for a pair? I got a pair of nike frees (running shoes) they are really light and are mostly mesh. would these work?

They will be better then barefoot but you want to get a pair of high tops. Low top shoes will get sucked off sometimes.

i wear adio skate shoes haha, cause i cant afford to buy a set of wrestling shoes cause my ski eats up all my budget, but they work great and stick in my footholds very well.

The skate shoes must get heavy!

I have a pair of adio's on right now, the tounge itself must weigh 10lbs alone when wet...

I prefer skate shoes over anything. I like having all the padding and major arch/sole padding. My favorites are Vans rowlys2 since they arent super thick like some other skate shoes, but i also have a pair of adios that are pretty thickly padded which i love, they dont get too heavy.

Im going to try a pair of wakeskate shoes though this summer, like the Reef Byerly wakeskate shoes.
