how to tell 08 poles from earlier ones?

just trying to find out if i have a 08 pole or an earlier one?

You need to measure the distance from where the cable locates to where it attaches to the steering plate, it will be about an inch shorter on the 08.

butting the tape against whe steering cable locator mount to the center of the turn plate mount hole is about 7 3/4" (19.7CM)on a pre-'08

I just went through the same thing and was told the steering stop was casted in to the 08 and up. The 08 and older is bolt on steering stop pretty simple.

yup...that pic you have is an 08 or 09 pole (which suck). The 96-07 have a nut on the bottom holding the steering stop. the 08-10 are the same as a FX1 pole
