I'm over you way (Florida) in 5 x weeks - anywhere I can hire a SJ or go for a ride for a couple of hours? Too far to bring my ski from the UK!

Cheers,

Jim

Jim, you may receive more of a response, if you name which cities within Florida you intend to visit. If you come through Orlando :)pokey: and leave the mask at home), you have choices of sj’s …just get in touch first.

You must visit Winter Park then (ten minutes north of downtown Orlando, a bit further from Disney). It is the oldest community in Central Florida, and the Chain of Lakes is rather famous…all quite beautiful. You will appreciate the canals leading between the five lakes, among other things, and Park Avenue is very comfortable. You have mine and Gary’s sj’s to start with, and others in the general area will probably give you time as well I imagine. No worries...

Wow Suzie, that's a great thanks - If your ever in the UK I'll return the favour!

Will shoot you a PM when I'm out your way, assume sat or sun are the most popular days. - will sort out closer to the time (got my wedding in between - Florida is the honeymoon)

Cheers

Well how wonderful, congrats! You def must come here then...she will love it! You should stay one night at Park Plaza on Park Avenue if you can (very romantic), and the food is my favorite (besides Luma's... check on both).

The Chain of Lakes has something called the "Scenic Boat Tour", and that is something which both of you might enjoy together (does she ride too?). At the end of last season, a couple was married in the area, and their entire reception began on the boats (limos at the ramp, bagpipes, two photographers...whom I got in the middle of, lol) and all!

Edit: we both tend to ride during the week as well. Most others do the weekends.

A cute story from Dinky Dock yesterday:

I looked over at the boat ramp and noticed a man rolling a trailer down by hand; it got away from him, and fortunately he caught it in time. As this was happening, in shock I yell at Gary to turn around and look! We were confused of course, for neither of us had ever seen anyone do such a thing. This was not exactly a small trailer he had been chasing.

We walked over and asked him if he needed any help. With a pretty accent (Yorkshire) he tells us he is loading the ski…the big two-seater. Gary and I looked at each other stunned momentarily, perplexed, yet tell him we will help. We hesitantly asked him where the car was, and he said it was on the way. We pause, look at each other again, and say, “Ok”, further confused, yet rather intrigued indeed at that point. Why did the man roll the trailer down by hand? I don’t believe we shall ever know.

We still were not exactly sure what his intentions were, and we did not ask anymore questions. The man disappeared momentarily, our attention waned, but next we see him trying to drive the ski onto the trailer (pic 6 - the tongue is on the pavement…not jacked up…still no car in sight)! I am not joking…totally serious!! We began to think that perhaps this was the European method for loading a ski. Being polite hosts, we did not act as if anything were amiss, but we did stop him (unfortunately, because the photos would have been MUCH better otherwise).

Gary walks to the front of the trailer and picks it up (I do not know why, lol). The man begins to push the ski onto the trailer (AH ha), and so Gary instantly puts it down! Well, I had started laughing at that point a bit, I admit it. While we waited on his wife to bring the car, we learned they have been stranded in the States for eleven days, due to the volcano, after vacationing on a cruise in the Caribbean. Neither one of them had ever been on a ski before. Their local host lives a mile away, and had given them access to the ski and trailer (and did not accompany them oddly).

The wife pulled up shortly thereafter, and she did a pretty good job backing the trailer in her first try, yet it was a bit crooked. We easily could have picked the trailer up to straighten it, but it wasn’t really necessary to get the ski loaded. Well, the crooked trailer disturbed the man greatly it seemed, and he made her pull out and back in again, approximately ten more times!!! He had let the strap out of the wench completely, and was holding it like a fire hose, ready to hook the ski!

We managed to get them squared away safely, and had them proudly laughing at what a great job they had done…all was good…they will remember their first ski ride...and we will always have fond memories of them. They were adorable!

Spring is here…The End.

(Jim, I will post some decent pics for you and your soon to be bride within the Orlando ride thread, but I did attach one with these. Are you from Yorkshire by any change? We wish to know before you arrive please.)
