Looking for better underlayment foam

I had a few hard landings over the week end and the grey 8-10mm underlayment foam is dead , is there a more bomber way to go ? , I don't want 25mm as it raises your CG and you loose feel surfing , a bit higher density would be ok..

l found some nice padding locally at a place that sells high pressure hoses. They carry a lot of rubber padding and foam in bulk.l've used them on several skis over the years w/o any problems.Maybe check around your area,Tem.

You can use 1/2" or 3/4" neoprene from McMaster and it will outlast that grey micro cell foam.

Also keep in mind that it can be sanded down, so go with the thicker stuff.

go get the blue yoga mat from walmart. I used that on a sj and my B1, still holding up great. Its about 1/2" thick and sandable. Its closed cell foam so it wont soak up water.

:439:Ok ok I'll try the thick stuff, I've been working hard to get the tray , pump and motor as low as possible, it seems to be helping alot so I didn't want to throw it out the window and get to high.

i know 25mm doesnt seem like much but i can totally tell a difference when i jump on a ski with thick padding. yes it feels cushy and nice on the feet but also very disconnected. its all about what your used to though, you can adapt to anything.

i also dont like the feeling of standing up higher in the tray. people with thick padding roll their eyes when i say that haha.

My opinion, I would not build a boat for the surf with anything less than the 25mm padding.

I think I know 5 or 6 people who have broken heels in the surf. And none of them were running the 25mm pad. It is good stuff and can be easily sanded.

i forget who recommended this... use the 25mm and if you want more "feel", taper the footholds down to almost no padding at the balls of your feet/toes. leave the heals as thick as possible.

I just returfed and previously had no pad and went to 25mm.. I cant imagine getting inverted w/o it.
