My Wife's 2006 RN Build

Who knew...?

My friend Paul and I were out messing around on the lake I live on; he was on his X2 and I was on my Matrix... my wife was riding our RXPX and watching me attempt 180 nose stabs for the first time.

Paul's X2 is a blast to ride - just go WFO and play; never scary, a bit twitchy compared to the Trinity hull, but fun to try stuff with.

We asked my wife if she wanted to try it - bear in mind, she's never ridden a standup before, only 100s of hours on a couch. First start in 6' water, she was up and going - rode for 15 minutes, carving, playing and having a good time.

I jokingly asked her if she wanted to try mine when she got back. Surprise - she swam right over. After one mist-start (a little too much throttle), she rode the XS1000 powered monster for 5 minutes until she accidentally went WFO when she hit some chop. The gainer she did off the deck as the ski launched away from her was priceless.

That night, she said she wanted her own. I've had a clean 2006 with electrical gremlins and a stock-ish motor sitting in storage and I've got the 97 RN I picked up from Pancake that's got a solid motor and electronics.

My 6-yr old daughter and I stripped the decals and turf off the 2006; it's getting sprayed some wild pink pearl next week. I'm swapping the driveline and bling from the 97 into it - it's a new motor, has better components and a bit more power. Called Thrust Innovations today to get a RRP handlepole/steering setup for it - trying to mirror the setup I have so she can eventually bounce between the two and be comfortable with the pole weight and controls.

Hull is off for paint - might get done this weekend.

RRP steering setup to match mine is here; using the same trim system as my Trinity as well.

Talked with Brian @ Thrust in-depth over the course of the week and decided to just do it right and go with an Xscream SS827 and a mag pump for her build. I told her tonight we were just going to keep the 735 as a spare motor; she's excited to get the bigger motor. We ride flatwater 99.9% of the time, so he extra power makes things more interesting. If we rode surf, I'd probably go smaller, but this gives her something to grow into.

Selling the 97 back to Pancake in exchange for a couple days of tutoring here and some help turfing her ski. :) The 97 is set up better for surf anyway, and I know he's itching to get back out.

I suck - I need to update this more often.

Got the new hull (WCF, 2008+ bottom, reinforced and tweaked by Brian @ Thrust) for her a few weeks back. Paint got wrapped up last week:

inthebooth.jpg

It's a hot pink/magenta House of Kolor pearl - lots of blue pearl in it, looks wicked outside.

The wife and I started assembly this past weekend; because we changed hulls, I'm waiting on RRP tubes in black (originally I was going silver) - should ship with the motor today from Thrust. Color scheme is pink/black (obviously)...

athome.jpg

On a side note, I finally got to ride this weekend after breaking my foot and messing up the tendons 4 weeks ago. Went well - but I can't jump yet (tried, the landings hurt). Hours of carving, slides, tail stands and dismounts...

Amanda got the courage to get back on the Trinity for about an hour. She got air for the first time and is hooked; she'd have been able to get a bit more but is still timid with the throttle. The SS827 in her ski should suit her fine.

I'm pushing to get this done - she had my boat out for an hour on Monday, too... lol.

Motor is here!

Handlepole is together - running the trim, steering and wires now:

Order the graphics from ExoticSigns today for it as well. It's a 3-color kit based off a design they have. Above the bond line, it'll be black and silver, below it will be gray and silver:

Pump will be here tomorrow - then the fun starts. I'm hoping to have it together by the end of the weekend.

its raining again!
good choice on graphics:headbang:

Take your time to mesure and mark out how much of the graphic will be on the hood as it just comes as one big sheet for above the rail (well mine did anyway!) and cut it away from the graphic and apply it separetly!!! I learned the hard way and had to buy a second side.

Also there are some curly paterns above the n & s in the logo that need to be cut so that they stay with the main hull graphic and lay down just infront of the turf on top of tray side, you can see what i mean in the third pic.
hope this helps a little

Assembled and installed the pump. First time I've done one from components - took half an hour to get it shimmed right - I suck!

pumpin.jpg

Midshaft assembly is sealed and mounted; used a Blowsion dual bilge bracket for the pumps - they'll be wired to the ebox/switch using Boyer's work of wired art. Internal fuel fill is from Blowsion - not a big fan of how the tubing exits at 90 degrees to each other, may try to bend it tomorrow. Motor mounts are in (loose)... have to run cables through the tubes before I try to get the motor in.

Goal for tomorrow is to get the motor in... wife is itching to try it.

Motor is in - need to bolt up the carbs and exhaust. Went with a Cold Fusion flywheel cover - the piece is a work of art!

We started putting the graphics on last night and managed to get one side done. The bottom colors weren't quite what I expected - I thought it was going to be a bit darker. It'll do for now, but may change up at the end of the season.

Heading to the range this morning, then it's time to work on the wiring, button the steering/trim up and finish the graphics. She's already called dibs on my Matrix today - I'm going to be stuck on the couch watching her - my foot's not quite healed.

Wrapped up the graphics and got most of the turf done; rolled it outside to take pics.

We didn't put the graphics on the nose yet because it needs to be touched up (had to trim it to fit the RRP base). I need to get exhaust bolts to mount that up - probably tomorrow; need more contact cement to finish the turf and some breather tubes for the hood.

Fired it up tonight! I need to drop the pump and rotate the center section 180deg for clearance with the trim setup - then it's one last check and throw it in from the dock!

lucky

Damn your wife is one lucky lady. But looks like your a lucky guy too. To have a wife that is up for ridding stand ups. Smart of you to go all in and get her something she will like the looks of will help her want to ride it more often. LOL Sweet looking boat.

Had a farking problem with the TBM flywheel; it ate the stator and key. I think it's defective - another guy got one around the same time as me and he noticed it didn't fit. First time I put one on; I just torqued to spec.

I'm glad she enjoys riding standups... she's getting better quickly as she gets more confident. The 97 RN she rode before this one was pretty beat; sold it to pay for some of her build. I had her involved every step of the build; she helped turf it, did the graphics and lent a hand putting the rest together. This gives her a great platform to grow into, but it's not as daunting as my XS1000.

New stator is in along with a stock flywheel. Brian (Thrust) helped diagnose over the phone - still stumbling, only this time is was the MSD. I installed a stock CDI and it fired right up; after doing some research, there was some posts about the EPIC working on the 61X stator she's running for now. Installed and again - fired right up. Buttoned the ebox up, need to zip tie up the electronics and fuel lines again and we'll be good to go.

Yep - it's a 2009 with a Cobb tune. I've had it for about 2 years now. Favorite car, ever... and I've pissed away some money in cars over the years... LOL
