650/X-2 650sx crank rebuild

Hopefully I’m not beating a dead horse with this topic. All search threads were from a year ago so I’m wondering if quality from any of the rebuild/ new companies has improved or worsen.

The bad news is my bearings are shot. The good news is SBT does the crank rebuild for $200. My main question is, what’s the quality? I heard Hotods is crap, Crankworks is good and expensive, SBT is mediocre..

I’m not looking to go too crazy with the engine build but am looking for 170 – 190 compression.

A few of the local machine shops ship out so the price falls inline with that of SBT.

Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Just be aware that the SBT and Hot rods cranks will have crappy Chinese or Taiwanese made bearings , also the price listed on the SBT crank does not include the round trip shipping costs, if you can get it done locally with American made bearings for close to the same price then thats your best option.

depending on where you are located, Jeff at midwest crank in green Bay wisconsin 19204343630, i work at a dealer and we send alot of our cranks to him, it is an independant 1 man operation, he does a great job, uses good bearings and uses loc-tite when putting cranks back together which some places dont do. charges a very reasonable price. and we have never had a failure from anything hes done.

Just a little info on Tom from talking to him in the past . he used to work for Rotax's crankshaft rebuilding dept rebuilding snowmobile and watercraft cranks, then he decided to go out on his own. He manufactured a spacer on the Seadoo cranks that keeps the brass gear from sliding over, to the best of my knowledge he is the only Seadoo crankshaft rebuilder that does this mod, his work is top notch and done in a timely fashion, he's also one helluva nice guy. :Banane09:

Thanks for the help. I’ll give him a call and see what we can do… Maybe consider mailing out my seadoo crank for rebuild as well.
