FX-1 144 pump mod

does anyone know if you can mod a 144 pump shoe to fit in the fx1 also do you know how much can you grind on the 122 shoe before going thru
has anyone installed the 144 pump with the 122 shoe and did this stop the cavitation ? thanks

grind as much as you can on the 122 pump, where is burns through you replace with epoxy.....

installing a 144 pump takes ALOT of grinding on the hull...then ytou have to reglass

best option is a 650 kawi pump....or a 144 pump with a ground 122 shoe that just has a "step" in it

you want to take on a major project that will reward you in the future is cut the pump box out of a squarenose or B1 and glass in into an FX

people that have never ridden a 144 pumped FX (especially setback) are missing out....its like a 100HP slolam waterski

Yea, A 144mm shoe will fit. A 122mm shoe is pretty much a waste of time if you really want it to hook up good. The 140mm kawi mod is the easiest mod. In any event, get your resin skills ready!!!

Remember, proper drive line alignment is key (saves on wear & aggravation). Lot of guys here have done it all...search.

Waaaaaaay Old. Like uses his AARP card at the yamaha dealer and his senior discount at the gas station.

In any event Flash def has his junk together. Listen very close. I run a 140 Kawi pump and I think it hooks up very well. I have a JetManiac Big Bore

The 122mm shoe is a waste of effort to use. You have to grind it so much to use it there is just not much of it left. Corrosion killed my epoxied 122mm shoe. Replaced it with a scat trac sxr shoe and it worked out real well.

or just buy the 144 pump/intake tunnel from tom and glass in
thats what i was thinking of doing but its alot of work just seeing if there was a easier way and i want to stick with yamaha pump the ski is no fun with all the cavitation i guest it will be a winter project thanks for all the input

I did the 144 pump swap with the grinding it took time. Rode it in the 8 to 12 wave on MI and its a big improvement from stock. I'm doing a setback pump in mine now and will be selling my Bonzi Bob Pump that was welded and modified so pump bolts fit in stock positions. I would sell it with my aluminum pump shoe that i already spent many hours grinding it down to make it fit in the fx-1 tunnel. PM me if you interested.

2 small advantages to doing the intake duct are its a little longer. like 3/4 inch and the major one is you will then be using the sj intake grate, more selections and easier to find. plus having more water helps in the rough.

^^^ Knows a thing or two about FX1's....

My FX1 has a SJ tunnel and pump cavity grafted in. It was like that when I bought it though.
