Thats right...It will be a major improvement. I just finished the 144 pump mod in my FX-1 just 1 day before the Rager. The route I took was the "Hack up and re-work" the bottom to create a mold. After a long stare at the "make the pump fit" route...I decided against it. Check the pic for diameter/fit/ sizing. A little off.
Just making the pump fit in would be ok, but I felt the graft would not be as efficient or as light as it needs to be. The stock FX is made with your standard cheezy Heavy "boat cloth" weave and cheap polyester resin. (It breaks real easy). My factory FX bottom had a hard life, it was worn very thin (100's of beach landings and like every ski, waterlogged) and needed replacement or serious work anyway.
The first ride hookup was like "direct drive" compared to the standard FX-1 pump....Why did I wait so long??:banghead: This project took 2 years to finish.....Time to dial it in and re-learn how to ride!:cheer:
Where were you guys 2 years ago? The $650.00 pump mod is a deal.
Thank you very much for another view point on how awesome the 144mm pump is in a FX-1, I would love to see yours it sounds awesome.
