Need A Ski
Hello all, im looking to get my first ski and want to get into freestyle. Im looking at a 1989 Kawasaki 650sx and was wondering if this would be a good starter ski. Also, where can i get aftermarket performence parts for one of these? Iv'e heard that the 650sx is exactly a great freestyle ski, but how far will i be able to get with it as a beginner?

Thanks

Don't waste your time with the 650. I had the same thinking when I first got into it, and I hated myself for wasting the money on the 650 only a few months after I had it. go ahead and take the plunge and get a squarenose superjet or a roundnose. You are very likely to get all your money back out of both of them if for some reason you don't like it.

if you can pick up a sx for DIRT cheap then it may not be a bad idea but I would recommend waiting for a Superjet. I would also try and hook up with some people and see if you can ride their skis to see what you like, you may find that you would rather have a B1 or X2.

You can also pick up a ski with some mods already done to if and normally save some money.

lol, now im tied between the 650sx and the 750 or superjet again...the 650sx im lookign at is VERY cheap. but i dont want to get it then only use it for a little bit then need to upgrade. on the other hand, the superjet or the 750 owulld be more expensive and my parents probably wont get me it first off. may be ill get the 650sx, get good on it, the when the see im into they will buy me something better. what sort of tricks can you do on a 650sx? (in a lake)

Don't waste your time on the 650 man, I'm tellin' ya. You are going to dump money into that turd because it won't be what you need in stock form, and even in modded form after alot of $$$, it still won't be. Take my advice, and just forget the 650 exists.

I agree with kennay, however if you can get a 650 for a couple of hundred bucks you'll be able to sell it for the same amount in a year. I would NOT dump a lot of money into a 650 if you get it.

It's a little hard for me to keep from modding something...

If I EVER have a 650 again, it will stay running for guests but that is about it.

for the money you'd spend on a 750 you are MUCH better off with a superjet. Let me explain my previous statement. ONLY get the 650 if it is DIRT CHEAP and you can't afford a superjet.

if you go 650 750 dont mod it. you might as well be tossing your money in the fire.
you can pick up a squar nose if you look around.

thats a really good point. if you come across one for cheap and its your first boat, just ride it and dont put any money into at all. if you end up liking the sport and want to start build your ski/skills than sell it for what you bought it for and start the long, arduous search for a superjet.

the 650 sx is a dog, not worth registering IMHO
but the 750sx is not a bad ski
I enjoy mine from time to time
But it did get handed down when I got a SJ

i guess ill start with a 750sx...since i found a nice one for pretty cheap. then eventually sell that and look for a superjet.

If its the right price go for the 650sx, ive had sitdown skis for 10 years now and only just took the move to standup, my 650sx ows me £300 uk pounds including the trailer, it took a little cleaning but thats it, but it has been a lot of fun over the first few rides this year, and has paid for it self in fun alone, i am lerning alot with this ski and i will move on to a SJ,
i always wonted to try standup but didnt wont to invest to much £££££ incase i hated it, turns out i love it, but the cheap 650sx has allowed me to get in to standup at the right money and at the momment out performs me,
I hear what people are telling you and sort of agree, but if the sx is cheap you will have you moneys worth in fun, then enable your self to get past the learning and like me get a SJ next year when you know you aint going to be waisting the money,
