okay guys i just got my first 6m6 sj i have had 701's before but never a 650. what is the best way to get power out of this old dog? just wondering where my cash would be best spent, i'm sure a pipe is at the top of the list. what else? or should i just send it off to be ported and bored?

after starting on a 650, you're wasting money getting it to perform. The same exact amount of money spent on a 701 will yield a lot more power.

Just drop a true 701 in.

you can probably put together a 61x/61x motor pretty cheap. Just part the 650 out, and keep all the fasteners.

i have a good 61X 701 short block here for sale.

you can swap most of your parts over. i also have an intake, reeds, for the 61X i can add in as a package deal.

650 cases aren't that much worse than 61X cases, save your dough for T cases and in the meantime clearance your 650 cases for 701 cylinders and port them if you have any motivation left over.

I dont believe you

61X is a clear difference from 6m6 cases, by a lot. 62T is even better then 61X. But theres no problem going single carb.

701s are cool, but dont be discouraged with the 650.

with some compression, lots of ignition advance, a pipe, and a low pitched impeller, a 650 boat can still be much fun!

Id never use electrical tape for gaskets, it wont hold the heat.

It seals fuel tanks nicely though.

I have a PSI ported 650 cylinder with 2 slugs .25 over, wrist pins and rings.

I never ran it bought it last year for $120+ ship will sell $100 shipped.
