Gotta get one ordered for my boy for x-mas, put it off cuz I just dunno which to get.
Ease of use and durability are WAY more important than quality of pic and sound for him.

Let me know what ya all think, I know there are alot of y'all using them so should be some good feedback.

I had an ATC2K. It was dirt cheap. ($39.00)
It was easy to use (except for the tiny display) and it made vids. It got cracked, I tried 5200, but it eventually got soaked and died.

I would not buy another. Sometimes you get what you pay for.
I don't know the difference between the 2K and the 3K, but any gopro must be better! My only experience with gopro is vids viewed.

But it depends, I guess, on his application.

There are two main functions that I wanted. First, the widescreen. I hate watching videos where people are using the regular cameras. Makes you feel like you have tunnel vision. Second, is the stabilizer. Gopro doesn't really advertise this as far as I've seen but watching videos of people using some of the other cameras and it drives me crazy with all the bouncing and jumping that the videos has. I have the non-HD version of the GoPro Wide and I'm fairly happy. I'm not trying to take video of other people or produce advertising quality video. My primary purpose is to see what I see when I'm riding and this camera does that for me.


edit: One thing to point out. You can't base quality on youtube videos because youtube degrades the video. You can however judge how the image reacts to vibrations and bouncing.

just buy a non HD gopro...they are super cheap since the HD came out.

If you want to film others get something with a narrow angle of view like the tachyon. If you want to film yourself get a Gopro. IMO the extra money for the HD version is WELL worth it as long as you have a computer that can handle the files.

Tachyon now has a 120 wide angle with 720 hd available - ships this week. Also, for the money, the ContourHD 1080 is very nice, but you have to run a waterproof case like a goPro. I have a non HD goPro and it was good when I bought it, but the new HD cams are so superior it isn't funny.

Yep. I've spent some time reading that thread.

Thought there might be some other points of view .... But I'm actually glad my ATC2K crapped out. The Tachyon seems like an affordable, better alternative to the ATC.
Always open to new ideas. Tech moves fast.
The GoPro fish-eye thing is annoying to watch...to me.

First thing to try is shut the computer down. Unplug the power for a few seconds and turn it back on. Try to watch the video before you open up any more programs. If it clears up, you just have resource issues on your computer. If not, you may either need different drivers for your hardware or you may just need a better computer...or you need to clean up all the crap running in the background.

went ahead and bought this one and a 16g class 10 memory card for a total shipped price of $168 for all (comes with an extra slide rail mount of some sort). Anything else I need to get with it?

Edit: I noticed that it is throught Tachyon and fulfilled by Amazon. Odd. What am I missing here other than it appears that you pay an extra $13 by going through Amazon?

Shipping and memory card included in the $168 bro. Plus Its easy and quick to deal through amazon for me. My boy will use the mount as he plays paintball and rides BMX and quads as well so it will get used. The class 10 card was cheaper there then I could find it anywhere as well. Free shipping and handling is significant to me to cuz I know my total up front, no bs handling charges or hiked shipping charges to deal with.
